Storm went to the hidden alcove that was hinted at in the letter and retrieved the ring that was mentioned. He chose not to wear it immediately as accepting any enchanted item without first checking for hidden traps placed on the item was the height of folly.
Especially when it came from questionable sources.
The ring wasn't the only item hidden in the alcove however. Azurian was an ancient dragon that had plenty of time to collect treasures.
Most of his treasures seemed to be rare tomes on a wide range of topics.
Storm ordered these to be packed up and transported to Sanctuary so that they could be studied. If the knowledge within wasn't dangerous, then he would have it transferred to the city library where others can benefit from the knowledge within.
As Orian's body had matured enough to fly now, he was eager to get started. Storm and Aurora agreed to give him a small lesson to get him started.
He learned the basics quickly, but as he was still small, there was absolutely no wat that he would be able to fly an his parent's pace and so after a hour or 2, the little guy was so exhausted, that he was currently sleeping in his mother's arms while they flew the rest of the way.
As they landed back in Sanctuary, Storm handed the ring off to his mages to examine.
Despite his concerns, the ring was harmless.
They determined that the ring had an ward that protected it's wearer from hostile magic, and even prevented it's wearer from being scryed.
As the ring was too small for Storm, and Aurora had her own means of protecting herself from mages.
Storm decided to give the ring to Orian, hoping that it's magic could help him if Omen managed to find him. Directly afterwards, Storm took Orian to Razor in order to confirm if his ordeal had any potential side effects.
Something that Orian was not happy about.
"I'm tired!!!!" Cried Orian.
"I just need you to stay awake a moment longer, little one!! We need to make sure you're healthy!!" Stated Razor.
Orian stomped his foot.
"I'm fiiinee!!" Whined Orian.
"There, all done!! You can rest now!" Stated Razor.
She petted him a few times on top of his head and his eyes closed rapidly, a moment later Orian's snoring filled the room.
Once he was asleep, Razor went to the table and began to examine the samples they had taken from him.
After several tense moments, Razor pulled herself away from her desk to address both concerned parents.
"You two can relax now!! My tests are telling me he's fine! Better than fine actually!!!"
Storm and Aurora both breathed a sigh of relief.
"One thing I've discovered is that he seems to be experiencing a similar metamorphosis as you, Storm. " started Razor.
"He's becoming a unique subspecies?!" Asked both parents.
"Yes, but it's still in the early stages, and it's completely different to the one you had, Storm. " Explained Razor.
"Could he have potential side effects like I had?" Asked Storm.
"Doesn't look like it. The element he's adapting is fortunately similar enough to fire that it's not causing him discomfort.
We should keep an eye on his development however. If he starts experiencing drawbacks, bring him to me immediately. I might be able to minimize his discomfort." Explained Razor.
"What about his mind?" Asked Storm.
"Mostly unaltered based on what I am able to detect. His mind was more mature than the rest of his body before the change due to the influence of Mimereus's memory.
But now the two seems to be in balance again.
His body is now at the same stage of development as his mind." Explained Razor.
The events around the altar was hazy for both Storm and Aurora.
He remembered panicking when he noticed what the altar signified, before hearing a voice that sounded like that of his father.
Aurora had a similar experience, but she heard a voice of an unknown female dragon who claimed to be her mother.
After hearing the voices, both dragons weren't able to recall much. They both came to their senses to find Orian unconscious and the altar broken. With no idea how it came to be broken.
Even Orian's memory of the event was hazy.
"How could he have changed his element? And why did he grow?" Asked Storm.
"Seems he absorbed a considerable amount of light energy. Why that energy came to him though is a mystery.
But his body wasn't big enough to contain it, so it used the excess energy to grow." Explained Razor.
She smiled in amusement.
"Seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!" Said Razor in amusement.
With the parents reassured that their son was in perfect health. Razor expected the couple to depart, but Storm refused to budge.
"Is there anything else, Storm?" Asked Razor.
"I'd like you to examine me as well." Stated Storm.
"Why, have you been feeling under the weather?" Asked Razor.
Aurora also appeared curious.
"..."
"Something happened to me in Caledonia.
I encountered a fire spirit that transferred something to me. Afterwards, I found I can do this..." Explained Storm.
He breathed out, and a small jet of fire left his mouth.
Suprising both Aurora and Razor.
"You can breathe fire now!!? What about your lightning abilities!!?" Asked Aurora.
"Unaltered... as far as I can tell...
I can even combine the two elements together into one attack. Storm turned towards a small target range where Razor practiced magic and fired a blast.
The explosion annihilated the poor target.
Sending debris flying everywhere.
Orian jumped to his feet in fright of the sudden loud explosion and looked around.
After a moment, he found nothing of interest and curled up again to continue sleeping.
"Facinating!! Let's have a look." Stated Razor.
She plucked a scale from Storm's body and closely examined it.
"Seems mostly unaltered, so I'd be careful of using those attacks at close range.
Your scales isn't as resilient to fire as regular dragons. " stated Razor.
She cast a divination spell next that Storm had often seen healers use. It's a spell that allowed someone to see past the flesh and skin of an individual. Healers often used it to examine a patient's bones and organs for damage.
"Ohh my..." Exclaimed Razor.
"What is it?" Asked Aurora concerned.
"Storm has a second breath organ now!"
"That's impossible!! Dragons only have one!!" Exclaimed Storm.
Razor tapped a spot on his chest with a talon.
"Not anymore. You clearly have a second one that is separated from your main lightning one.
It's smaller and less developed than your main one, but I imagine it will grow in time.
It's connected to your digestive system just like regular dragons.
I'd like to run some additional tests over the quieter winter months. I assume you'll be here during that time?!" Asked Razor.
Storm nodded his head.
