Chapter 224 - Vivid Dreams

Storm took a deep breath before stepping over the threshold.

His home opened to a large waiting area set aside for new acquaintances who wished to meet with him.

A small dinning room table dominated the center of this room along with several couches that could fit a variety of different sized guests.

Several pictures of his family were placed along the wall, including the one that depicted a hatchling Storm with his parents.

He'd changed so much over the years since that moment that he could barely recognize the little one in his parents grasp.

The next room was an ornate hall with a large staircase that spanned the entire structure.

His dwelling consisted of 3 floors that all had different functions, the first floor contained the waiting room, main hall, a small kitchen, and the large meeting hall where the celebration took place.

The second floor he had dedicated to his children with a room set aside for each of his children, as well as his currently unhatched daughter.

The floor could easily be expanded further as his family continued to grow over the years. Several rooms were also dedicated to his children's hobbies.

Chrome was something of a 'rough' member of their family who liked to spar and improve his combat skills and so a small armory and sparring room had been set aside for him and his mate.

Which was regular used for both combat training, as well as 'other' activities with his partner.

Orian meanwhile was something of a bookwyrm and a large library had been constructed especially for him and Storm, who both liked to read in their spare time.

Added to this was also a small ritual room where Orian could practice his spellcraft safely.

The Third and final floor contained Storm and Aurora's bedroom, as well as Storm's office.

The one side of Storm's bedroom led out to a small balcony where the 2 dragons could sit and admire the city below

Each bedroom door had been soundproofed so that they wouldn't disturb the others staying in the residence as well as Storm's office door and Chrome's training room.

As Storm walked to the meeting hall, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of hobbies his daughter would have once she grew up.

In the center of the meeting hall, displayed proudly like a treasure was his daughter's egg.

Everyone else who had been invited was already present and called out a greeting as he entered.

Everyone save for the hatching day dragon it seemed, that is. Storm walked over to his mate and gave her a small peck on the cheek.

"He hasn't arrived yet?" Asked Storm.

"No, he's locked himself in his ritual room and hasn't stirred at all. He's starting to annoy me now!" Stated Aurora.

She gave Storm a venomous look.

"I blame you for this!" Stated Aurora.

"What did I do?!" Asked Storm.

"You were just as difficult to get to attend celebration events when you were younger! Clearly you passed it on to him!!" Stated Aurora .

"He's technically adopted! So how could I have passed it on?" Asked Storm bewildered.

"You always knew how to do the impossible, if anyone could do it, it would have been you!!" Stated Aurora.

Storm sighed in defeat.

"I'll go look for him." Stated Storm.

Making his way back to the main hall, Storm ascended the stairs and walked up to the ritual chamber doors.

When he entered the room he saw his son sitting at the far end by himself. In is forelimbs was a large book with the words: 'Precognition and Prophecy, how to interpret dreams by Malarion'.

"Is this where you've been hiding yourself? Your mother's pretty upset with you, you know?" Asked Storm.

"I'm really not in the mood for crowds today. " stated Orian.

"Come now, son! Your mother went through a lot of trouble to organize all this! It would be rude not to attend!" Stated Storm.

"... I'll... be down in a minute... just give me time to finish here..." stated Orian.

Storm knew his son better than that. His 'minute to finish up' could take all day if Storm didn't force him to put down his work.

Using a single claw he lowered the book until Orian was forced to put it down.

His son sighed in defeat.

"All right, All right!! I'm done!!" Stated Orian.

"Why are you even reading this particular topic?" Asked Storm as he studied the cover.

"..."

His son's hesitation to answer showed him that something was clearly troubling him.

"Orian? What is wrong?" Asked Storm

"... I've... been having recurring dreams, father... very vivid ones." Stated Orian.

This particular news as deeply troubling for Storm. Although visions and premonitions weren't that uncommon for magic practitioners, it was especially common among Practitioners of light magic.

Light magic always had a strange connection to time and so many of the more well known prophecies had come from Lumomancers.

Storm wasn't suprised that his son was gifted with the sight, but he'd secretly hoped that the talent would skip him.

Storm knew better than most how heavy the burden of knowing the future was and he didn't want his son to carry the same burden as he. Some seers had been driven to madness by the knowledge.

Storm sat down beside his son.

"Tell me everything." Stated Storm.

".... I dream that I'm completely surrounded in darkness, I can't move and I can't see, but I hear voices all around me... frightened voices... calling for help..." Explained Orian.

"Unknown voices? Or ones from people you know?" Asked Storm.

"Most are unknown , others I feel like I should recognize, but I'm unable to recall where I've heard them before... One voice I recognize however... it's mother... she's calling out to you in a panic, but you do not answer!" Replied Orian.

"What happens then?" Asked Storm concerned.

The darkness clears, and I see dragons in front of me, including you. I attack them and kill them. I try to stop myself, but my body refuses to obey my command.

Then the darkness fades away and I see a figure reaching out to me, I cannot make out it's face, but it's a female dragon, that much I'm sure off.

I try to reach out to her, but I always wake up before I can reach her, and when I do, I feel such an immense feeling of loss, that it drives me to tears." Explained Orian.

Storm was at a loss for words.

His son's visions wasn't what he was expecting..

It was much, much worse...
