~LENORA'S POV
"I thought you'd be asleep by now."
Azalea's voice came from the doorway before I even realized she had entered.
I was sitting on the edge of my bed, still dressed, my hands resting loosely in my lap as I stared at the floor without really seeing it.
The candle beside me had burned lower than I remembered lighting it, wax pooling unevenly at the base like time had been passing without asking me to notice.
"I tried," I said after a moment, rubbing my hands together slowly as if the motion might settle something inside me. "It isn't working."
She stepped inside and closed the door behind her without making a sound. The quiet way she moved used to feel comforting, like nothing could reach me if she was nearby.
Tonight, it only made me more aware of how much of her I didn't understand.
"What is keeping you awake?" she asked.
