"We cannot remain in the mortal realm much longer."
Alaric's voice cut through the room so suddenly that every soft little thought in my head disappeared.
One second, I had been staring down at Atticus in my arms, still trying to understand how someone so tiny had somehow rewritten my entire life, and the next, I was looking up at Alaric like he had personally offended me.
Lucian had been near the window, watching us with that thoughtful expression he wore when he was thinking too much and saying too little.
Zephyr had been pacing because apparently standing still for more than thirty seconds physically pained him.
"What?"
The word left me faster than I intended, and judging by the way Lucian's head turned instantly, I was not hiding my panic very well.
Alaric noticed too.
"Dove."
"No," I said quickly, already shaking my head. "Do not Dove me right now. Explain."
Zephyr stopped pacing, and Lucian straightened.
