Daytime.
"Jiraiya Sensei, where are we going?"
Naruto followed behind Jiraiya. Seeing him lead the way to increasingly secluded areas, he couldn't help but ask curiously.
"To train, of course."
Jiraiya turned his head and looked at him seriously. "Because you might disappear again at any time, as your teacher, I should teach you some truly useful things."
Jiraiya felt that every time Naruto disappeared to the training place arranged by the Fourth Hokage, he must have been learning how to use Nine-Tailed Chakra. That was why Naruto's proficiency improved so much each time he returned.
And as his teacher, he should take advantage of Naruto still being here to teach him some Ninjutsu knowledge, such as Chakra nature transformation.
Jiraiya used to think Naruto was still too young and that it was a bit too early for him to learn things that required Jonin-level mastery.
Originally, he planned to continue taking Naruto on missions as part of his training.
But after talking with Naruto last night, he suddenly realized that Naruto now possessed Jonin-level strength and could no longer be viewed as a normal child. He needed to teach him what he could as soon as possible. Otherwise, he might not have the chance later.
So Jiraiya decided that while Naruto was with him, he wouldn't do anything else and would focus entirely on training him. When Naruto went to the place arranged by the Fourth Hokage, he would handle his own matters.
As for missions—it was completely unnecessary now.
"Truly useful things?"
Naruto's eyes lit up. "Jiraiya Sensei, are you going to teach me another amazing Ninjutsu?"
"Not Ninjutsu."
Jiraiya grinned. "It's Chakra nature transformation."
"Chakra nature transformation? What's that?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Everyone's Chakra possesses different attributes, and these attributes determine the techniques they excel at. For example, the Uchiha Clan naturally possesses Fire Release Chakra, so the ninja of their clan are naturally skilled in Fire Release Ninjutsu."
"When using Fire Release Ninjutsu, they consume less Chakra than others. This is the nature of Chakra."
Jiraiya first explained Chakra attributes, then continued, "Before becoming a Jonin, most ninja specifically train in Ninjutsu that matches their own Chakra attribute. But after becoming a Jonin, almost all ninja will possess two or more Chakra natures."
"So after becoming a Jonin, you can learn more Ninjutsu!" Naruto immediately interjected, his face excited.
"Exactly!"
Jiraiya nodded. "There are two ways to use Chakra. One is shape transformation, which refers to molding Chakra into specific shapes or structures to enhance the effect of Ninjutsu. The Rasengan developed by your father is the ultimate display of Chakra shape transformation."
"The other is nature transformation, which determines the type and diversity of techniques. Furthermore, combining two or more nature transformations produces a new Release, called a Bloodline Limit."
"Bloodline Limit?"
Naruto had never heard this term before, but it sounded powerful.
"Generally speaking, there are only five types of Chakra nature transformation: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Water, and Earth. These are the foundation of all Ninjutsu and the origin of the names of the Five Great Nations."
"A Bloodline Limit refers to a brand-new Release produced by combining two or more of these five basic nature transformations. For example, the Wood Release used by the First Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village is formed by combining Earth and Water."
"Oh, we've arrived."
Jiraiya stopped, then pulled out a stack of paper from his arms. He took one sheet and handed it to Naruto.
"This is a Chakra affinity test paper. Cover it with your Chakra, and you'll be able to test your Chakra nature."
"Understood!"
Naruto took the test paper, extracted Chakra, and covered it.
The next moment, the paper suddenly tore—and then, with a pop, it shattered into invisible dust, vanishing into thin air.
"Wow! The paper disappeared!"
Naruto looked at his empty hand in surprise, then asked, "Jiraiya Sensei, what's going on with me?"
"This…"
Jiraiya stared at Naruto's empty hand, speechless. He had never seen this before.
"That doesn't count. Try again."
He handed Naruto another test paper. "You might have used too much Chakra just now. Use less this time."
"Oh!~"
Naruto nodded and tried again, using the smallest amount of Chakra he could control.
But the result was the same.
Pop.
The paper vanished.
"Jiraiya Sensei…"
Naruto looked at his empty palm cautiously. "That was already the smallest amount of Chakra I could control. Is there something wrong with my Chakra?"
"No, you're fine!"
Jiraiya immediately tossed the remaining papers behind him. "The papers are the problem. We'll use another method."
"Phew, so it was the paper's problem!"
Naruto relaxed. "What's the other method?"
"Ninjutsu!"
Jiraiya raised both hands. "I'll directly teach you Ninjutsu of various attributes. After you learn them, you can tell which one consumes the least Chakra. That will indicate your Chakra nature."
There was no other choice. Naruto's reaction had exceeded Jiraiya's understanding.
"Okay!"
Naruto's face showed pure eagerness.
"First, Wind Release. Naruto, watch closely!"
Jiraiya formed hand signs slowly for clarity.
"Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!"
He exhaled a whirlwind, stirring up dust.
"How was it? Did you see clearly?"
"Mm!"
Naruto immediately formed hand signs and exhaled a far more powerful whirlwind, leveling a layer of the ground in front of him.
"Idiot, you used too much Chakra."
Jiraiya sighed. "To learn it in one try and have that much power—it seems your Chakra nature is indeed Wind Release. But to be safe…"
"Let's test again."
He formed hand signs once more.
"Next is Fire Release. Watch closely!"
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
Jiraiya's chest swelled as he spewed massive flames forward, like a dancing fire dragon.
