"His vision is incredible," Paul Scholes said from the stands, shaking his head in admiration. "Cristiano Ronaldo was already close to Gabi. Even if Mario had passed to Gabi, Ronaldo would have fouled him immediately to stop the counterattack. Atlético Madrid's break was doomed from the start."
"Kai didn't actually need to move into Mario's passing lane toward Gabi. He shifted sideways deliberately — to make Mario think he would intercept."
"That's intelligent positioning. He lured Mario straight into a trap."
"Mario is a centre-back comfortable with the ball at his feet. If his first passing option is blocked, he doesn't panic and clear it blindly. He prefers to dribble out of danger and reorganize play."
"Even inside his own penalty area."
"That's exactly why Barcelona rate him so highly."
Boom!
After Kai's tackle, the ball deflected behind him.
Gabi rushed forward.
But someone was faster.
Cristiano Ronaldo.
The same Ronaldo Gabi had just intercepted moments earlier.
This time, Ronaldo's acceleration destroyed him.
Like a supercar slamming into top gear, Ronaldo didn't even bother controlling the ball cleanly — he simply crashed into it and drove straight into the penalty area.
Mario immediately latched onto Ronaldo, desperate to make up for his mistake.
From the left side of the box to the right, he chased Ronaldo step by step.
Then he realized—
Where the hell was the ball?
During the shoulder-to-shoulder duel, Ronaldo had subtly left the ball behind near the penalty spot — like laying an egg — dragging Mario and the defenders away with a fake run.
Boom!
Kai, who had been knocked down during the interception, scrambled up just in time to see Ronaldo's "egg."
He charged in—
Struck cleanly!
The Atlético goalkeeper had shifted focus from Ronaldo to Kai—
Too late.
The ball drilled into the net.
2–0!
Sporting CP double their lead!
"GOAL! Perfect chemistry!"
"Kai's timing is brilliant!"
"Cristiano Ronaldo's burst of speed was devastating!"
"In the middle of heavy contact, Ronaldo had the awareness to leave the ball behind. That requires trust!"
"And Kai repaid that trust perfectly!"
"Two players. One devastating move. Atlético torn apart again!"
"Oh! Kai slides on his knees toward the corner flag — but clearly hasn't practiced it — he flips over!"
There's a saying: the moment Kai's knee slide bounced and overturned, he knew he was screwed.
As expected.
Just as he tried to get up—
He was shoved back down.
Without looking, he knew it was Cristiano Ronaldo.
Seconds later, the entire team piled on top of him in celebration.
Human sandwich.
Kai could only hold his breath and endure.
When you're being crushed like that, you'd better not exhale — once you do, your lungs compress and you'll black out faster than getting your cut cock stepped on in a bar fight.
When Kai finally saw daylight again, the first thing he muttered was an apology to the heavens.
Because he was about to unleash some extremely colorful vocabulary.
Halftime
Sporting's bench was full of laughter.
Atlético's was heavy and silent.
0–2 down in a final.
That's brutal.
Atlético rushed into the locker room. Their coach clearly had plans to rewrite the script.
On Sporting's side—
Assistant coach Maxa handed Kai a cup of hot tea and took his towel.
"Kai, what's the plan for the second half?"
"Simple. Lock down Torres," Kai said calmly. "With a two-goal lead, we don't need to force attacks. If we neutralize Torres, this match is finished."
Maxa rolled her eyes internally.
Isn't that obvious?
So Master Kai isn't always some tactical genius.
But Kai continued:
"Marking Torres won't be easy. Our defenders will suffer. Be ready to substitute. If someone gets sent off, we're fucked."
He added:
"Between the 60th and 70th minute, bring me on depending on the situation."
Maxa frowned.
"For Duarte? Or for Araujo?"
Kai shook his head.
"Neither. Replace Veloso once he gets booked."
Maxa blinked.
"You'll play defensive midfield?"
"As long as Veloso gets a yellow, sub him off. Whoever marks Torres must be in peak condition. No hesitation. No fear."
Maxa stared at him.
Using Kai as a roaming defensive shield?
That was bold.
Genius-level bold.
She felt slightly embarrassed for doubting him earlier.
Better suppress that arrogance.
Don't let it float.
Second Half
Atlético returned like a different team.
Aggressive.
Physical.
Fouls everywhere.
Torres began receiving more service.
Sporting responded with yellow cards.
61st minute — Manuel booked.
67th minute — Duarte booked.
70th minute — Veloso booked.
Torres was like a bucket of yellow paint.
Anyone marking him turned yellow.
"Sporting are making changes!"
"Three substitutions in a row! That's bold!"
"Manuel off. Duarte off. Veloso off."
"Kai is coming on… but not at right-back."
"Is he… playing defensive midfield?"
"No — he's free-marking Torres!"
"This Chinese youngster, who joined in the winter window, has become Sporting's defensive specialist. He's fast, lean, extremely fit, and surprisingly strong in duels."
"He once completely froze Arjen Robben in this competition!"
72nd minute.
Torres tries to beat Kai on the wing.
Kai slides cleanly — ball out of play.
Kai pops up.
High-five from Ronaldo.
75th minute.
Torres receives with his back to goal, nutmegs Semedo, spins, charges toward the box.
Kai instantly sticks to him, forcing Torres slightly wide.
Ángelo clears.
79th minute.
Sporting push forward.
Ronaldo, Lorenzo, and the forwards keep moving.
But Atlético's defense is compact.
The game slows.
Kai stands with the ball, momentarily unsure.
This is what happens when a leading team commits fewer players forward.
Against a low defensive block, weak attacking numbers create stagnation.
Pass forward? Probably lose it.
Pass back? Waste the opportunity.
It's the classic "lag mode" scenario many smaller teams face.
Kai exhales.
Fine.
If there's no obvious solution—
Create one.
He begins dribbling in a small circle.
The familiar "little spinning top."
Building rhythm.
Improving passing angle.
Preparing—
For a sudden overhead through ball.
