Emmett would have ignored the ringing if not for the name on the screen.
His brows rose in interest. "So eager, huh? What are you up to now?"
With a tiny smirk, he answered the call.
"Hello? What's the occasion that Austin Lockwood decided to approach me?"
The other side said something that made him chuckle. But the earlier carelessness was gone, replaced by his usual calculating streak.
"Asking about her? She is safe with me. Do relay my message to your father as well. There is no need to worry about her safety."
He walked up the stairs, the smile on his face vanishing.
"Who do you think would dare hurt her when she's under my protection?"
In a way, it was a threat. A warning to Austin to watch his moves.
Without waiting for Austin's reply, he cut the call short.
He might enjoy dealing with sharp-minded people, but Austin was different.
What was there to gain from dealing with a bastard like him?
