There were fresh roses in the white vase at the center of the circular table, which was filled with all the dishes Severine preferred.
"Killian?" she called out, half in surprise and half in confusion as he gently settled her into a chair.
Dropping another kiss on her forehead, he sat on the only other seat left.
Right in front of her, from where he could see her properly.
"I brought your favorite fish crackers as well." He removed the lid from a white ceramic plate with a grin, revealing the golden, fish-shaped treats inside.
"Here, have a taste." His eyes were practically urging her to try them first.
Severine picked up a golden cracker, bringing it to her lips and taking a small bite under his expectant gaze.
Even without him speaking, she could hear the questions in his mind: How is it? Do you like it? Does the taste feel familiar? Does it remind you of something?
And it did.
