Amanda's POV
I finished washing the lingering tension of the day from my skin.
I wrapped myself in a light, loose dress that hung softly against my body and used a thick cloth to dry my damp hair as I stepped out of the washroom. The cool air of the bedroom hit my skin instantly, making me shiver just a little bit.
I stopped dead in my tracks.
The room was quiet, but the air felt heavy. Someone was in here with me. My heart gave a sudden, sharp thud against my ribs. It was an instinct, a sudden wave of heat prickling at the back of my neck. I knew what I felt, and I knew I was not alone.
I kept my movement smooth and natural, pretending that nothing was wrong. I slowly walked toward the wooden table where a small basket of fresh fruit was sitting.
A slender silver knife rested right beside it. I kept towel-drying my hair with one hand, acting as normal as I possibly could while my eyes tracked every tiny reflection in the room.
I felt a sudden rush of air behind me.
