[ELARA'S POV]
Marcus showed up at our door on a Saturday morning looking nervous.
Actually nervous. Marcus. The man who'd faced down armed kidnappers without flinching. Who'd taken bullets for Damian. Who never showed emotion.
He was sweating. Fidgeting. Radiating pure panic.
"I need help." He said when Damian opened the door.
"With what? Security breach? Threat assessment?" Damian let him in.
"Proposing to Rebecca."
We both froze. Stared at him.
"You're proposing?" I asked. "To Rebecca?"
"Yeah. Tonight. I have reservations. A ring. A plan." He ran a hand through his hair. Messing it up. "And I'm completely losing my shit."
Damian started laughing. Actually laughing. "Marcus. You've killed people. You're scared of proposing?"
"Killing people is easy. This is..." He couldn't finish. "What if she says no?"
"She's not going to say no." I said. "She's been waiting for you to ask for months."
"How do you know?"
