Cross retaliated exactly two weeks after the tax story broke.

I found out when Patricia called me at work. Crying. Actually crying.
"Mrs. Voss, someone tried to take Isla."
The world stopped. Everything went silent except my heartbeat thundering in my ears.
"What?" My voice didn't sound like mine. "What do you mean tried?"
"At the park. A man approached. Said you'd sent him to pick her up early. I told him no. He got aggressive. I grabbed the children and left. But Mrs. Voss, he knew her name. He knew details."
My hands were shaking. Phone almost slipping. "Where are you now?"
"Home. Locked inside. I called the police. They're sending someone."
"Stay there. I'm coming." I was already moving. Grabbing my bag. "Don't open the door for anyone except me or Damian."
I called Damian while running to my car. He answered on the first ring.
