[ELARA'S POV]
My period was late.
Two weeks late. Which wasn't that unusual. Stress. Exhaustion. Nursing Alexander still occasionally. All of that could mess with cycles.
But I'd been regular for months. And two weeks was pushing it.
I took a test on a Thursday morning. Early. Before anyone was awake.
Sat on the bathroom floor waiting. Three minutes. The longest three minutes of my life.
One line appeared. Then a second. Faint but there.
Positive.
"Fuck." I said it out loud. To the empty bathroom. To the test. To my uterus that apparently didn't understand the concept of an IUD.
I was pregnant. Again. Despite the IUD. Despite supposedly having five years of protection.
Fourth baby. Fourth. With three kids already. Three kids under four.
This was insane.
I took another test. Different brand. Just to be sure.
Positive.
And another.
Positive.
All three tests. All positive. I was definitely pregnant.
"Fuck." I said again. Because what else was there to say?
