[ELARA'S POV]
Alexander turned one on a Tuesday in March.
We threw a party. Small. Just family. Marguerite. Julian and his girlfriend. Marcus and Rebecca who were getting married in two weeks.
The chaos was beautiful. Isla was almost four. Bossy. Opinionated. Helping with everything whether we wanted help or not.
Big Julian was almost two. Toddling around. Getting into everything. Currently trying to eat cake before we'd even sung happy birthday.
"No buddy." Damian intercepted him. "Cake comes after singing."
Big Julian's face crumpled. Bottom lip trembling. About to cry.
"Or we could sing now." I said. Quick. "Before the meltdown."
We sang. Badly. Off-key. Alexander smashed his face into the cake. Got frosting everywhere. Laughed that baby belly laugh that made everything worth it.
"He's perfect." Marguerite held him after we'd cleaned him up. "All three of them are perfect."
"They're chaos." I corrected. "But yeah. Perfect chaos."
