One year after Claire was born and we got the news.
Dominic was sentenced. Twenty years. Federal prison. Maximum security.
No chance of early release. No appeals. Done.
"It's over." Marcus told us. "Completely over. Dominic's locked up. Lucien's still in France. Every threat we've faced is neutralized."
"You're sure?" I asked. "No cousins? No associates? Nobody else coming for revenge?"
"I'm sure. We've been monitoring. Nobody's moving. Nobody cares anymore. Lucien and Dominic are forgotten. You're safe."
Safe. That word felt foreign. After four years of constant threats. Constant fear. Constant fighting.
We were finally safe.
"What now?" Damian asked.
"Now you live." Marcus smiled. Rare. "Raise your kids. Run your companies. Be normal."
"We don't know how to be normal."
"Then learn." He stood. "You've earned it. Peace. Normalcy. Whatever you want to call it. Enjoy it."
