Chapter 125 - 2nd Attempt XIX

Beaumont smiled fiercely, believing the momentum had finally shifted in his favor. The large chunk of violet barrier he had sheared away with his vortex of razor-sharp midnight stone still lingered in his mind like a trophy. Adrenaline surged through his battered frame, drowning out the protests of his bruised ribs. He didn't waste a single heartbeat. With a primal roar that echoed off the vaulted ceilings of the vast cathedral hall, he threw his entire weight forward, boots digging trenches into the responsive midnight stone beneath him. Amber sigils blazed like twin suns across his forearms as he thrust both arms outward in a rapid, blurring sequence.

Sharp stone spikes erupted in a relentless barrage, followed immediately by compressed earth spears that whistled through the air like ballistic missiles. Each projectile was thick as a spear shaft and hardened with layers of condensed mana, their tips gleaming with lethal intent. They streaked directly toward Agatha's exposed left flank, the one vulnerability he had carved open with his earlier sandstorm of shrapnel.

The heavy projectiles slammed home with devastating force. A blinding explosion of dust, magical friction sparks, and midnight stone fragments erupted outward, momentarily swallowing Agatha's floating form in a churning grey maelstrom. The impact shockwave rippled across the cathedral floor, cracking ancient flagstones and sending smaller debris skittering into the shadows between the colossal pillars.

But as the smoke and dust began to clear, swirling away in unnatural patterns, Beaumont's triumphant smile froze and then vanished entirely. Agatha hovered there, completely unharmed. Her porcelain features remained serene, and her smirk had only widened into something almost pitying, like a parent watching a child throw a tantrum. Surrounding her floated a flawless, shimmering orb of transparent violet light, perfectly spherical, humming with an absolute, magical power that made the very air around it thrum.

The small breach Beaumont thought he had exploited was gone. Or rather, it had never truly mattered. The outer film of energy he had cracked was merely the outermost layer of something far more profound.

"Surprised?" Agatha's voice carried across the distance with effortless elegance, dripping with genuine amusement. She floated gracefully within the glowing sphere, one hand lightly resting on her hip as her ornate robes stirred in an unfelt breeze. "You truly thought you broke my defense? How adorable. Allow me to introduce you to the Ultimate Barrier. What you witnessed earlier was merely the outermost film of its energy. This orb… it absorbs the very physical laws of the world around it. It cannot be breached by simple toys like yours."

Beaumont's jaw dropped, hazel eyes widening in disbelief. The confident fire in his chest flickered dangerously. "No way… That's impossible!" His voice cracked with raw denial. Refusing to let panic take root, he pushed through the sudden wave of dread clawing at his mind. His core mana reservoir flared hot and urgent. He gathered a massive amount of amber energy into his clenched fists, the sigils flaring so brightly they cast golden reflections across the fractured stone around him. With a guttural shout, he slammed his fists forward through the air as if physically hurling the spell.

Three enormous, spiked boulders materialized in rapid succession above Agatha, each one the size of a small house, jagged surfaces crackling with compressed earth mana that made them hum like living siege engines. He hurled them one after another, the sheer kinetic force of their launch sending gusts of wind whipping through the hall.

The first boulder smashed directly into the violet orb with the deafening sound of cracking mountains. The impact sent visible shockwaves blasting outward, shattering nearby pillars into sprays of black stone. It exploded into a useless cloud of dust and gravel. The second and third followed in quick succession, each collision more violent than the last, yet the orb didn't even ripple. Its surface remained pristine, the violet light pulsing steadily.

"My turn," Agatha said smoothly, her relaxed posture vanishing in an instant. Her violet eyes sharpened with predatory focus. She raised her right hand, and a massive, complex sigil circle intricate beyond anything Beaumont had seen, flared to life over her palm. The sheer pressure of her mana made the air vibrate and thicken, pressing down on Beaumont's shoulders like an invisible weight. Runes within the circle shifted and rotated with hypnotic speed, drawing power from the ambient magic of the dungeon itself.

Within seconds, the sigil birthed a series of huge, jagged lances forged from pure, condensed violet energy. They crackled and hissed like localized lightning storms, arcs of power dancing along their lengths and scorching the air. The temperature around them dropped sharply even as ozone burned.

With a casual flick of her wrist, Agatha launched the first lance. It screamed through the air at blinding speed, tearing up the midnight stone floor in its wake. The mere passage of the projectile gouged a deep, molten trench into the responsive dungeon floor, sending chunks of stone flying like shrapnel.

Beaumont's instincts screamed danger. He clapped his hands together with desperate speed. "Earthen Wall!" Mana surged from his core into the living stone. A massive, five-layer defensive wall of reinforced dungeon stone erupted from the ground before him, a thick, layered and enchanted with every ounce of durability he could muster. It was a bulwark capable of stopping a charging giant, its surface etched with glowing amber runes that pulsed in defiance.

BOOM!

The violet lance struck with cataclysmic force. The entire five-layer wall was demolished in a fraction of a second, exploding outward into a fine powder that filled the air like grey snow. The raw shockwave of the impact slammed into Beaumont like a runaway freight train, blasting him backward and raking his face with sharp stone debris. Blood trickled from a dozen shallow cuts across his cheeks and forehead. His breath caught in his throat. Cold sweat poured down his neck in rivulets, mixing with dust and imp ichor from earlier.

A terrifying realization washed over him like ice water: She wasn't taking this fight seriously from the start. She still isn't.

Agatha didn't give him even a moment to recover or process the horror. She raised both hands now, the sigil circle expanding and multiplying as she conjured a dozen more of the massive violet lances. They materialized in a deadly fan formation, each one humming with apocalyptic power. With another elegant gesture, she launched them in a relentless, rapid-fire sequence.

The air filled with the piercing screams of violet death.

Beaumont scrambled, forced into pure survival mode. He flooded the stone beneath his boots with mana, turning the dungeon floor into a slick, responsive platform. He slid across it like a skater on black ice, twisting and weaving with athletic desperation. Each lance detonated with earth-shaking force where he had stood mere seconds before.

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!

The grand fifth floor transformed into a wasteland of craters and scorched ruin. Colossal pillars cracked and groaned under the onslaught. Vaulted sections of ceiling began to crumble, raining heavy debris. Explosions of violet energy lit the hall in strobing, hellish light, casting long, dancing shadows that made the surviving imps screech in frenzy.

Whenever Beaumont spotted the slightest opening in the barrage, he fired back desperately. Bursts of stone shrapnel launched skyward in howling clouds. Tectonic spikes erupted from the floor beneath Agatha's position, seeking to impale her. But every single counter-attack shattered uselessly against the Ultimate Barrier. The violet orb simply absorbed the impacts, converting raw destructive force into harmless motes of light that drifted away like dying embers.

The intensity of the assault reached a breaking point. Beaumont was completely overwhelmed. His lungs burned, his muscles screamed, and his mana reserves dipped dangerously low. All he could do was dodge, weave, and desperately block the stray shockwaves that clipped him. He tried to halt his sliding momentum to cast a proper, layered defensive spell, something heavier more rooted, but Agatha's pacing was utterly suffocating. She gave him no inch of space to breathe, not a minute to focus his fracturing mind.

Then, without warning, an intense, crushing gravity slammed down on Beaumont's shoulders. It felt as though the entire weight of the dungeon had suddenly decided to punish him. His body became heavy as lead. His boots sank several inches into the fractured stone floor, cracking it further. His reflexes slowed by a critical half-seconds, muscles protesting and vision blurring at the edges. Trying to fight through the suppression.

That microscopic opening was all Agatha needed.

A massive violet lance tore through the swirling smoke and dust, bypassing his clumsy attempt at a final dodge. Beaumont barely managed to cross his forearms in front of his chest, amber sigils flaring one last time in defiance. The spell collided with him dead-on.

The impact was catastrophic.

A bone-rattling CRRRRRACK echoed through the ruined hall as the lance's full power transferred into his body. White-hot agony exploded across his torso. The sheer, unyielding force lifted him clean off his feet despite the crushing gravity, hurling him backward across the vast cathedral like a discarded ragdoll. He rocketed through the air, arms and legs flailing helplessly, before slamming violently into a thick, structural stone wall dozens of meters away.

The ancient wall exploded inward on contact. Chunks of midnight stone the size of wagons flew in every direction. Beaumont disappeared into the collapsing structure, buried instantly beneath a roaring mountain of heavy debris. Dust and rubble cascaded down in a choking avalanche, completely swallowing his form.

Silence briefly returned to the devastated hall, broken only by the soft patter of settling dust and the distant, fading screeches of the few remaining imps. Deep inside the rubble, Beaumont coughed violently, each convulsion sending fresh waves of agony through his shattered ribs. He spat a mouthful of bright crimson blood onto the grey dust that coated his lips. He tried to move, anything; a finger, a shift of his shoulder but white-hot pain flared through his entire torso. Breathing was shallow and ragged. His body refused to obey, limbs heavy and unresponsive.

He was heavily damaged, running purely on fumes and the raw fire of adrenaline.

In the distance, Agatha still floated serenely within her flawless violet orb, untouched and smiling.
