Mrs. Santiago's blood boiled in rage.
"Is there something wrong?" Verena asked, her eyes darting between her parents. "Do you know who this Claire Valenti is?"
"Yes," Mrs. Santiago replied after a beat. "She was my best friend, same with Beatrice. They were both my best friends."
There was a sudden silence that reigned but neither of the girls broke it.
Delfina was seated on the furthest couch. She wouldn't be here if she weren't curious to know what had happened three decades ago. The Santiago couple didn't even acknowledge her. They treated her like a pest so she stayed silent and watched them.
