"Let's just sit down first," Elara said, her voice like ice.
Alex had been glaring at her the whole time, his eyes full of fire. He sat on the sofa, not even trying to hide how much he hated being in the same room as her. When I tried to sit next to Elara, Alex reached out and grabbed my wrist. He pulled me down to sit beside him instead. I didn't mind. I just wanted to be near him, so I gripped his hand as tight as I could.
Elara watched us with her arms crossed. She looked annoyed, not even hiding her gaze on my skin where Alex was touching me. But I didn't even look at her. For the first time in weeks, the heavy shadows in my eyes lifted just a little bit.
"The dangerous part is mostly over now," said the man in the suit—Elara's assistant, Julian. "Lyra is safe. But there are still things to settle. It's best if you two stay apart until everything is finished."
