"Come now, stop being stubborn, Lyra." Elara clicked her tongue softly as she looked at the tray of food. It remained untouched. Her brows furrowed in irritation.
Lyra stayed perfectly still, her eyes refusing to look at the woman beside her.
"What a selfish girl you truly are," Elara continued, sighing in disappointment. She rose from her seat and walked slowly toward the bed. "Thinking of no one but yourself."
Lyra had realized something very quickly: no amount of fighting would ever convince Elara to let her go. Elara didn't care if Lyra was happy; she only cared that Lyra was there. Since she couldn't run, Lyra decided to become acorpse. She would be as lifeless and boring as a doll. She had tried this once before, but things were different now—she was heavier, tired, and carrying a life that linked them forever.
