Chapter 65 - CHAPTER SIXTY FIVE: SHE'S HERE.

Ha-Joon's office was quiet in the way powerful rooms tend to be.

Floor to ceiling windows. A desk too clean. A screen filled with numbers behaving exactly as they should.

His phone vibrated.

Do-Hyun.

He answered without looking away from the screen. "Yes."

There was no greeting on the other end.

"She's here."

A beat.

"Mother," Do-Hyun clarified unnecessarily. "She just arrived."

Silence.

Ha-Joon's fingers stilled on the keyboard.

"She said she didn't want a formal visit," Do-Hyun added. "She came straight."

Of course she did.

Ha-Joon stood up immediately.

"I'm coming," he said calmly, already reaching for his jacket.

He stepped out of his office and into the main floor.

"Seo-Jun."

Seo-Jun turned from his desk instantly. "Yes, sir?"

"Handle everything for today. If anything urgent comes up, filter it. Dismiss the team early."

Seo-Jun blinked. "Early, sir?"

"I have work to do."

Not business work.

Personal.

Seo-Jun nodded quickly. "Understood."

Ha-Joon walked toward the elevator with that same controlled pace that made people move out of his way without being asked.

Just before the doors closed—

Ji-Ah stepped out of a meeting room down the hall.

She had been mid-sentence with Soo-Min when she noticed him.

Something about his walk had changed.

She frowned and called out, "Sir...?"

He didn't stop.

But he did look at her.

One nod.

Small. Direct.

She froze.

She knew that nod.

It wasn't corporate. It wasn't polite.

It meant: Come with me. I need you.

She turned to Soo-Min. "Reschedule the three o'clock. And email me the updated draft."

"Is something wrong?" Soo-Min asked.

"Probably," Ji-Ah replied calmly, already grabbing her bag.

She stepped into the elevator just as the doors began to close.

Inside, it was quiet.

She looked at him. "Your mother?"

"Yes."

"That was fast."

"She doesn't announce storms," he replied evenly.

The elevator descended.

Ji-Ah studied his reflection in the mirrored wall. He looked composed. But his jaw was slightly tighter than usual.

She softened her voice. "You said stay close."

He met her eyes briefly.

"Yes."

The doors opened.

And together, they walked out, not saying much more, but moving in sync toward whatever version of judgment was waiting for them.

They reached the car in a quiet rush of footsteps and unspoken calculations.

Ha-Joon unlocked it, slid into the driver's seat, and started the engine in one smooth motion.

Ji-Ah fastened her seatbelt and turned to him. "Where is she?"

"At Hanryeon Food," he replied, eyes on the road.

"Why there?"

He changed lanes neatly before answering. "My mother prefers that company. There's a private family room upstairs. She likes controlled environments."

Ji-Ah tilted her head. "Controlled?"

"She can observe without being observed."

"That sounds… intense."

"It is."

The city blurred past them in steady motion.

"Besides," he continued calmly, "most of the staff go home by this time. It'll be quieter. We can talk without an audience."

She nodded slowly. "That makes sense."

A small pause.

Then he added, "I'm stopping by Lunaris first."

"To pick up Seo-Yeon and Min-Hyuk?"

"Yes."

She blinked. "Why them?"

"If my mother is meeting everyone, she meets everyone properly."

Ji-Ah absorbed that.

"And Nisa?" she asked.

"We'll bring her too."

"What about Do-Hyun?"

"He'll come directly from the restaurant."

Ji-Ah frowned slightly. "You said she hasn't arrived."

Ha-Joon glanced at her briefly before looking back at the road. "She arrived in the city this morning."

That landed heavier than expected.

"So she's been here," Ji-Ah said quietly.

"Yes."

"And didn't tell you?"

"She rarely does."

Ji-Ah leaned back in her seat, processing.

"So," she said slowly, "your mother appears without warning, chooses the location, and expects everyone assembled."

"Correct."

"And you say that calmly?"

"I've had practice."

She studied his profile for a second. Calm. Focused. Slight tension around the eyes.

"You're nervous," she said softly.

He didn't deny it this time.

"I prefer preparation," he answered. "She removes that luxury."

Ji-Ah nodded once.

"Okay," she said. "Then we'll go gather your people like it's a royal summons."

He almost smiled at that.

"Something like that."

The car moved steadily toward Lunaris.

Ahead of them waited Seo-Yeon. Min-Hyuk. Nisa. Do-Hyun.

Outside the building, the air felt sharper. Expectant.

Nisa stood near the entrance, and for a second, even the city seemed to slow down.

Her emerald dress caught the light like it had its own quiet spotlight.

The fabric flowed smoothly along her figure, elegant without trying too hard, the neckline modest but sculpted perfectly.

The deep green made her skin glow warmer, softer.

Her hair fell in glossy waves down her back, parted neatly, framing her face with deliberate grace.

She looked composed. Regal.

Like someone who had already practiced her calm in the mirror.

Tonight, she wasn't just Do-Hyun's fiancée.

She was Chanyanisa.

And she looked like it.

Beside her, Seo-Yeon stood in silver grey.

Her dress was structured, clean cut, almost architectural. It hugged her frame just enough to emphasize confidence without softness.

The cool tone sharpened her features, made her look luminous under the fading daylight.

Her hair was styled sleek and straight, tucked slightly behind one ear, revealing a subtle pair of earrings that shimmered when she turned her head.

If Nisa looked like elegance in bloom, Seo-Yeon looked like precision carved from light.

Today, they were being introduced.

They had to look good.

Very good.

Min-Hyuk stood nearby in a navy suit, crisp and tailored. The color deepened his calm presence, the sharp lines of the suit making him appear steadier than he felt. He adjusted his cuff once, subtle, controlled. Nervous but holding.

Ha-Joon stepped out of the car wearing a grey suit this time. Not midnight blue. Not dramatic.

Grey.

Clean. Severe. Refined.

It gave him a colder edge. More corporate heir than charming strategist. The cut was flawless, of course. His presence did the rest.

Ji-Ah joined them a moment later.

She hadn't worn the soft pink from yesterday.

Tonight, she chose a formal black dress. Long sleeved, structured at the shoulders, cinched slightly at the waist. No excessive detail. Just sharp lines and quiet authority. Her hair was left down again, but styled smoother, neater. She looked less like a daughter hosting dinner and more like someone prepared to negotiate terms.

Seo-Jun and Yura approached quickly, both in their P.A attire. Tailored dark suits, tablets in hand, expressions alert.

"Ma'am came unannounced?" Yura asked quietly.

"Yes," Ha-Joon replied without irritation. "It isn't new."

Seo-Jun adjusted his glasses. "We'll prepare the upstairs room."

Nisa leaned slightly toward Ji-Ah. "Why didn't you wear something brighter?"

Ji-Ah glanced at her, calm.

"It's not about me," she said simply. "It's about you."

Nisa's expression softened just a little.

Ha-Joon looked at Ji-Ah briefly. Something unreadable passed between them.

Then he opened the car door.

"Let's go."

One by one, they got in.

Emerald. Silver grey. Navy. Grey. Black.

Engines started.

And the quiet ride toward Hanryeon Food felt less like a drive and more like the opening scene of something that would be remembered later.
