Chapter 66 - CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN: THE MADAM.

Hanryeon Foods went quiet the second they stepped in.

Whispers slid across the lobby like paper in the wind.

"Is that Director Do?"

"He's holding her hand."

"And who is that woman behind them? The one smiling like she knows something?"

Ji-Ah heard it all. Pretended she didn't.

Do-Hyun squeezed Nisa's hand, shoulders tight. She leaned closer. "Relax."

"I am relaxed."

"You look like you're negotiating with fate."

Min-Hyuk adjusted his navy suit for the fifth time. "Why is my heartbeat in surround sound?"

Seo-Yeon, silver-grey perfection, muttered, "Stop narrating your anxiety."

The elevator climbed.

Ding.

The private dining room was wide and immaculate.

A long obsidian table stretched through the center, polished enough to reflect nerves.

Dishes were already arranged.

Steaming platters. Crystal glasses. Every fork aligned like soldiers awaiting inspection.

At the head of the table—

She sat.

Madam.

Charcoal silk dress, structured shoulders, sleeves smooth as liquid shadow. A thin gold bracelet at her wrist.

Nothing excessive. Nothing soft.

Her face was sharp but not harsh. High cheekbones.

Pale skin untouched by distraction. Lips lightly tinted but pressed in a straight line.

Her eyes were the real presence. Dark.

Still. Assessing.

The kind of eyes that measured a person before they finished blinking.

She did not stand.

They approached.

Do-Hyun bowed slightly. "Good evening, Mother."

Nisa followed gracefully. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

Seo-Yeon bowed.

Min-Hyuk bowed too deep and almost collided with the chair.

Ha-Joon inclined his head calmly.

Ji-Ah stepped forward beside him, offered a polite smile, and bowed. Not too low. Not too high. Perfectly calculated.

Madam's gaze paused on Ji-Ah a fraction longer.

Interesting.

"Sit."

Arrangement:

Madam at the head.

To her right, Do-Hyun. Next to him, Nisa.

To her left, Ha-Joon. Ji-Ah seated directly beside him, close enough that their shoulders nearly brushed.

Across from them sat Seo-Yeon and Min-Hyuk.

Ji-Ah crossed her legs neatly, fingers folded on her lap.

Professional but undeniably beautiful. Her smile was gentle.

Her eyes were not.

They observed. Compared. Assessed.

Madam folded her hands on the table.

"How is work?"

The air tightened.

Do-Hyun answered first. "The expansion branch is stable."

Madam nodded once. "Your quarterly growth?"

"Up by six percent."

Her eyes shifted to Ha-Joon. "And you?"

"Contracts secured. No losses this month."

"Mm."

Seo-Yeon straightened. "My department exceeded projections."

Min-Hyuk added quickly, "We optimized resource allocation—"

She looked at him.

He stopped.

Ji-Ah watched the exchange with a small, knowing smile. Her expression said, You should've paused.

Madam's gaze returned to the table.

"Work reflects discipline," she said calmly. "Discipline reflects character."

Silence.

Ji-Ah tilted her head slightly, still smiling, as if mentally grading everyone's performance.

After a moment, Do-Hyun cleared his throat.

"So… aren't you going to ask questions?"

Madam's eyes lifted.

"I am waiting for your sister."

Min-Hyuk blinked. "But Arisoo, didn't—"

The door burst open.

And every head turned.

The door swung open.

And every head turned.

She entered like she had never once doubted she belonged there.

Arisoo.

She wore a deep sapphire dress, sleek and sculpted to her frame, the fabric catching the light in quiet flashes. Her brown hair fell in soft waves over her shoulders, the same shade as Min-Hyuk's, rich and warm. But her eyes… her eyes were Ha-Joon's. Deep. Steady. The kind that looked through you instead of at you.

And that smile.

That slightly crooked, confident smile.

Pure Do-Hyun.

Every single person at the table stood.

Even Madam Kim rose.

Arisoo crossed the room gracefully and wrapped her arms around Madam Kim first. Not timid. Not overly emotional. Familiar.

"Mother."

Madam Kim's posture softened by half a degree. "You're late."

"I like dramatic timing."

Of course she does.

She pulled back, then finally turned to face the rest of them.

Her gaze swept across the table.

Cold.

Sharp.

Identical to Ha-Joon's when he was in a boardroom.

Nisa stepped forward first, polite and warm. "It's nice to meet you."

Seo-Yeon followed with a bright smile. "We've heard a lot about you."

Ji-Ah inclined her head gracefully. "Welcome."

Arisoo stared at them for a long second.

The air tightened.

Then her lips curved.

"You're all very pretty," she said smoothly.

Just like that, the tension cracked.

She moved to the table and chose the seat beside Ha-Joon without asking.

Of course she did.

Ha-Joon looked at her calmly. "You came."

She tilted her head slightly, amused. "Did you miss me, brother?"

The way she said it had that playful, teasing tone only sisters perfect over years of practice.

Min-Hyuk grinned at her immediately. "You look expensive."

She leaned back in her chair, studying him. That same cocky smile. "And you look like you rehearsed that compliment."

He placed a hand over his heart. "Wounded."

Her eyes flicked to Do-Hyun next.

A silent conversation passed between them.

"So," she said lightly, "who's causing trouble these days?"

"Not me," Do-Hyun replied instantly.

She raised a brow.

Liar detected.

Then her gaze shifted.

Nisa.

She didn't smile this time.

She simply looked at her. Measured. Curious. Assessing.

Not hostile.

But not soft either.

Before the silence could stretch, the servers began moving around the table, placing dishes down one by one. The scent of warm food filled the room.

Plates clinked gently. Chopsticks aligned.

Arisoo rested her chin lightly on her hand, eyes still on Nisa.

Interesting, that look seemed to say.

Very interesting.

The first bite had barely been taken when Arisoo leaned back slightly and tilted her head toward Madam.

"That ring on your hand…"

Her eyes slid smoothly to Nisa.

"What's it for?"

Chopsticks paused midair.

Ji-Ah blinked once.

Seo-Yeon gulped.

Nisa instinctively looked down at the ring, then at Do-Hyun.

Do-Hyun cleared his throat. "Mother, I was going to—"

Madam Kim's gaze sharpened. "You were going to what? Announce it after the wedding?"

Silence.

"You bring a young woman here wearing a ring and fail to introduce her properly?" Madam's voice was calm, which somehow made it worse.

Before it could escalate, Arisoo reached for her glass lazily.

"It's not entirely his fault," she said smoothly. "If someone gave me a ring, I would make sure the whole building knew by lunch."

A small, crooked smile.

Do-Hyun shot her a look.

Ha-Joon stepped in evenly. "Work has been excessive lately. The timing wasn't deliberate."

Madam exhaled slowly.

Her eyes moved to Nisa.

"And your father. What does he do?"

Nisa straightened politely. "He owns a restaurant. It's quite well-known in Bangkok. We expanded two years ago."

Madam's brows lifted slightly. "Expansion at that scale requires discipline."

"Yes, ma'am."

"And you assist him?"

"When needed."

A pause.

Madam nodded once. Approval, subtle but present.

"You were raised properly."

Nisa lowered her gaze respectfully. "Thank you."

Arisoo studied her again, but this time her expression warmed.

"I like her," she said simply.

Nisa blinked, surprised.

Across the table, relief passed over Do-Hyun's face like sunlight breaking through clouds.

Arisoo then turned abruptly.

"And you?"

Min-Hyuk nearly choked on water. "Me?"

She pointed her chopsticks at him.

He straightened. "This is Seo-Yeon."

Just her name.

Nothing else.

Seo-Yeon's head turned slowly toward him.

That's it?

No title. No achievements. No glowing introduction.

Ji-Ah, sitting beside Ha-Joon, smiled faintly.

Interesting strategy, she thought. Either bold… or foolish.

Arisoo's lips curved knowingly. "Just Seo-Yeon?"

Min-Hyuk nodded nervously. "Just Seo-Yeon."

Seo-Yeon forced a small smile while mentally planning his interrogation later.

Arisoo's gaze shifted again.

"To you."

Ha-Joon didn't hesitate. "Ji-Ah is my secretary."

Clear. Professional. Final.

Ji-Ah kept her expression composed, offering a polite nod.

Secretary.

Of course.

Inside, however, her thoughts were much less neutral.

Secretary who planned half your schedule and saved three of your contracts, but yes, let's keep it simple.

Arisoo hummed softly, unreadable.

Then Do-Hyun set his chopsticks down.

"I want to marry Nisa."

The words landed firmly.

No stutter. No hesitation.

Madam looked at him for a long moment.

Then she nodded.

"At least this will draw public attention in a favorable direction."

Romance, but make it strategic.

She turned to Nisa. "Be prepared. In two days, we will make it official."

The table stilled.

"And inform your parents. Properly."

Nisa inhaled and bowed her head slightly. "Yes, ma'am."

Arisoo smiled, pleased.

Min-Hyuk relaxed back in his seat.

Seo-Yeon still stared at him.

Ji-Ah quietly observed everyone.

And at the head of the table, Madam Kim finally picked up her chopsticks again.

"Eat," she said.

Which, in this family, meant:

Decision made.
