"Miss... Miss."
The voice called out repeatedly until I finally answered with a distracted, "Yes?" before turning toward the source of the voice. A bodyguard stood in front of me with an unreadable expression.
"The file, please."
"Oh sorry"
I slowly handed it over, my hands still trembling from everything I had just read. After he walked away, I dragged myself toward the couch and sank into it, threading my fingers through my hair before resting my head against the backrest and letting out a long, exhausted sigh.
Mr. Cross's words refused to leave my mind. They echoed over and over, making it impossible to think about anything else. I still couldn't bring myself to believe Xavier could really go that far, to the extent of choosing an easy death.
Was he really that tired of life? Had the pain consumed him so completely that he couldn't see any reason to keep living anymore?
Even then... it still wasn't right.
