Chapter 117 - Chapter 117: The Power of Mega Evolution

The moment he saw the mysterious stone, Sam immediately understood why Steven had wanted it so badly.

It was Metagrossite — the Mega Evolution Stone for Metagross.

And for Steven, this stone was priceless.

If Sam remembered correctly, Steven's trump card was a Metagross — and not just any Metagross, but a rare Shiny one.

Standing beside the podium, Steven watched Sam accept the prize. He hesitated, clearly wanting to say something but holding himself back.

Seeing that expression, Sam couldn't help but laugh.

He casually tossed the Metagrossite toward Steven.

"If you want it that much, take it."

Steven froze.

Sam smiled lightly.

"I don't even have a Metagross. Who knows when I'll catch one? It's better in your hands than sitting uselessly in mine."

To Sam, the stone was valuable — but not useful.

Building goodwill with the Hoenn Champion was far more worthwhile than keeping a Mega Stone he couldn't use.

Steven caught the Metagrossite carefully, clearly surprised.

He hadn't expected Sam to give away something so valuable without hesitation.

That kind of generosity wasn't common.

"I can't just accept this for free," Steven said seriously. "Is there anything you want?"

Sam's eyes brightened slightly.

This was exactly what he had been waiting for.

"Do you have a Key Stone?" he asked casually.

Steven blinked — then smiled.

"I have several."

He immediately removed a bracelet from his wrist and handed it over. Embedded in it was a Key Stone.

"Compared to a Mega Stone, this isn't rare. Anyone with enough League contribution points can exchange for one."

Sam accepted it, unable to hide his excitement.

Now, his Gengar would finally be able to Mega Evolve.

Steven still looked slightly uncomfortable.

After a moment of thought, he added, "I'll also help you look for Charizardite. Charizard has multiple Mega forms. With my connections, I should be able to find one."

Sam was genuinely surprised.

"That would be amazing."

He hadn't expected such an unexpected bonus.

It seemed being generous had paid off.

After a brief pause, Sam looked at Steven with curiosity.

"Can I see Mega Evolution in person?"

Steven chuckled.

"Of course."

Even if Sam hadn't asked, Steven would have tested Metagrossite soon anyway.

To avoid attracting attention, they left the event venue and headed to a quiet wilderness area.

After calming himself with a deep breath, Steven released his partner.

"Come out, Metagross."

A flash of red light appeared.

Before them stood a massive, silver-white Shiny Metagross.

Its steel body gleamed under the sunlight, its red eyes calm yet sharp. The metallic "X" across its face reflected faintly.

Even Sam felt a wave of pressure.

Steven stepped forward and gently attached the Metagrossite, crafted into a necklace, onto Metagross.

His hands trembled slightly.

Even for a Champion, Mega Evolution was thrilling.

Steven closed his eyes and focused.

The Key Stone on his wrist began to glow.

At the same time—

The Metagrossite shone brilliantly.

The two resonated.

Energy erupted outward.

White light engulfed Metagross completely.

Its form began to change within the light.

Moments later—

The glow faded.

Mega Metagross stood before them.

Its body was sleeker, more aggressive in design, with sharpened limbs and increased mass. Its presence alone felt overwhelming.

Steven stepped forward, eyes filled with joy.

"It worked…"

He gently placed a hand on Mega Metagross's steel armor.

At that exact moment—

A Poké Ball at Sam's waist burst open.

"Bang!!!"

Tyranitar appeared without being summoned.

It stared directly at Mega Metagross.

Its expression was serious.

It could sense it—

A powerful opponent.

Steven's eyes widened.

"You have a Tyranitar?!"

And not just any Tyranitar.

From the aura alone, Steven could tell—

This was a Champion-level Pokémon.

For someone under twenty to raise a Pokémon to that level—

Even Steven couldn't help but feel genuine admiration.

Sam truly was full of surprises.

And for the first time—

Steven realized that perhaps losing that final battle hadn't been bad luck at all.

It had simply been strength.
