Chapter 128 - Chapter 128: The Fossil Ambush

"Misty, Brock, hurry up!" Sam urged the two people behind him.

Ash had disappeared, and Sam was worried that if they missed the explosion, all the planning he had done for so long would be wasted.

The three of them chased after Ash with all their might and finally arrived at the scene just before the explosion.

The situation was extremely dangerous. The lit fuse was about to reach the bomb, and Ash, Squirtle, and Team Rocket were entangled, unable to stop it.

At the critical moment, Pikachu aimed a Thunderbolt at the bomb.

"No—!!!" Ash didn't even finish shouting before the bomb detonated instantly under Thunderbolt's impact.

In an instant, the earth trembled and the ground split open. A massive fissure tore through the battlefield, swallowing everyone into the crack.

Sam, who fell into the fissure, had already prepared for this. He immediately summoned Charizard. Riding on Charizard, he rushed to rescue Misty and Brock, who were falling nearby. As for Ash, who was farther away, he was simply too late to reach him.

Fortunately, Charizard's physical strength was impressive—otherwise, carrying three people would have overwhelmed it.

After rescuing Misty and Brock, Charizard flapped its wings with difficulty and slowly descended to the ground.

"Ahhh!!!"

Violent tremors shook the cavern around them. If Sam guessed correctly, it was likely Ash and the Team Rocket trio who had landed underground ahead of them.

Once they landed safely, Misty and Brock jumped down from Charizard's back and rushed to check on Ash.

"Ouch… that hurt." Ash groaned. Falling from that height had left him sore, but fortunately, he wasn't seriously injured. After stretching a bit, he quickly recovered.

"Team Rocket!!!" Ash suddenly remembered something important. He glared furiously at Team Rocket, ready to settle the score.

If it weren't for them, none of this would have happened.

"We can deal with Team Rocket later," Sam's voice echoed through the cave. "We've got bigger problems."

The moment he landed underground, Sam sensed killing intent. If he was right, fossil Pokémon had been awakened by the explosion.

"Come out, Clefable, Lapras."

To avoid scaring the fossil Pokémon hiding in the dark, Sam did not summon Tyranitar. Instead, he chose Clefable, Lapras, and Charizard.

After Sam's warning, Ash and the others noticed something was wrong. Pairs of glowing eyes flickered in the darkness, sending chills down their spines.

"Pikachu…" Ash muttered nervously. He quickly located Pikachu beside him and felt slightly relieved.

The Pokémon hidden in the shadows slowly emerged, revealing their true forms.

Kabuto, Kabutops, Omanyte, and Omastar.

"They're all ancient fossil Pokémon!" Brock gasped. He hadn't expected to encounter so many prehistoric Pokémon underground.

No Aerodactyl?

Sam felt a trace of disappointment. He wasn't particularly interested in the other fossil Pokémon—he had come here specifically for Aerodactyl.

He had also checked with the system. Although these fossil Pokémon were rare, their potential was fairly ordinary and didn't have much long-term training value for him.

"Brock, Misty, aren't you going to try catching a few fossil Pokémon?"

Sam's words snapped them out of their shock. The fossil Pokémon before them were all Rock- and Water-types—perfectly suited to their specialties.

Excited, Brock and Misty summoned their own Pokémon, clearly intending to capture one for their teams.

However, they hesitated. There were quite a few fossil Pokémon in front of them, and they weren't sure which one to choose.

Noticing their indecision, Sam calmly evaluated the battlefield.

"The Kabuto and Omanyte over there seem to have the best potential," he said.

Though they didn't understand how Sam could judge their aptitude so quickly, they trusted him. Without hesitation, they targeted the Pokémon he indicated.

The fossil Pokémon, awakened violently from their slumber, were already in a foul mood. They had planned to drive these intruders away—but now the humans were attempting to capture them.

How could they tolerate that?

With furious roars, the fossil Pokémon charged at the group.

Although there were many fossil Pokémon underground, their overall strength was underwhelming.

Under Sam's command, his Pokémon coordinated with Ash's team, splitting the battlefield in two. They held off the enraged fossil Pokémon while Brock and Misty attempted to capture their chosen targets.

"Hey, Meowth, should we grab Pikachu now?" James whispered.

"Forget it," Jessie replied firmly, rejecting the idea. She pointed at Sam. "With that guy here, we'd better behave."

Following her gaze, James shuddered. He had almost forgotten Sam was present.

They knew exactly how powerful he was.

When Sam's Tyranitar had battled the giant Tentacruel, they had watched from the sidelines. The sheer destructive force of that fight was something Jessie, James, and Meowth would never forget.

Just remembering it made James uneasy.

They wisely decided to stay put.

During the battle, Sam also felt slightly puzzled. He had expected Team Rocket to seize the opportunity to cause trouble while they were distracted. Instead, they remained unusually obedient.

Still, that worked in his favor.

With no interference, he could focus entirely on the f

ossil Pokémon.

"Charizard, use Brick Break!"

"Lapras, use Hydro Pump!"

"Clefable, use Metronome!"
