Chapter 109 - Chapter 26: Is Your Clothes Strong?

In the evening, the sea breeze began to warm slightly.

The titanic passed through the English Channel, sailing along the route towards North America.

The sea was grey-blue, solemn and terrifying; but the waves were lively. At the bow, they broke the water, and along the way, the propellers stirred up bubbles, like a zipper, leaving a trail behind the stern.

Under the night sky, Jack Dawson lay on a deck chair, thinking about himself, about Sen Getsusa, about the Statue of Liberty in the U.S., and about the future.

He thought his life was quite interesting, wandering the world, meeting all sorts of new people and things.

He helped others, and others helped him.

He learned to paint, though not as well as Sen Getsusa;

He learned shoe repair, which he once relied on for a living;

He even worked as a blacksmith.

But he didn't stick with it for more than a few days.

Who knew that blacksmith wasn't interested in teaching him a skill, but rather in him personally—

His gambling skills weren't extraordinary, merely above average among ordinary people.

In the casino of this massive ship, Jack had already won enough money to last him half a year.

When they reached their destination... the man shook his head, placing both hands behind his head, looking at the myriad stars.

In short, whatever he did, he treated it as enjoyment rather than drudgery, as pleasure rather than toil.

Because of this, Sen Getsusa always marveled at his face, which exuded a mature childishness, showing no scars or fatigue despite years of wandering.

The leisurely Jack's cigarette emitted red sparks—he had thrown away that box of cigars and sworn on the toilet handle that he would never touch them again... In the peaceful night, the waves crashed with a soothing, pleasant sound.

Suddenly, he felt someone running hastily behind him, the pattering sound growing closer, and a few seconds later, almost hitting the back of the chair he was lying on.

Jack sat up sharply.

The back of a woman in a long dress, as if fleeing for her life, ran down the gangway.

Her long dress fluttered in the sea breeze, her steps were incredibly fast, and her hands flailed uncontrollably.

The curious man threw his cigarette on the deck, extinguished it, and followed the woman.

At the end of the stern deck, the woman gripped the ship's railing with both hands, her upper body leaning out, facing the dark, churning seawater.

The stern deck was empty, and the surroundings were quiet.

The girl lifted her foot, stepped onto the iron railing about 30 centimeters above the deck, leaned her body out over the ship, and then stepped onto the ship's outer edge, standing upright on the extremely narrow rim.

Just watching from behind, Jack broke into a cold sweat.

If a strong gust of sea wind came or she lost her grip, this girl would surely be swallowed by the sea, dying silently.

"Don't do that," Jack said softly. When the girl turned her head, he stopped.

The girl was startled, realizing the young man was not far behind her.

"Don't come over! Back off! Back off!" she commanded, yelling, "Don't come near me!"

Jack remained calm, but began to slowly move, getting closer to the girl who was about to commit suicide.

"Give me your hand, I'll pull you back," he said kindly but firmly, shuffling his feet.

Behind the corner of the ship's side, Sen Getsusa sat on a chair.

Beside her, Howard was holding a half-eaten lobster, savoring it.

"What are they doing?" The two had watched the entire scene, and the Boy was very confused by the girl's behavior.

Ahead, Jack and the girl's interaction continued.

Sen Getsusa listened intently; the two seemed to be chatting happily, and Jack was even starting to take off his clothes.

"They are..." Sen Getsusa said with a smile, "probably falling in love?"

Howard scoffed, "Do you think I'm deaf or blind? That girl is about to jump into the sea."

"That's how love happens, what do you know about a little lobster?" Sen Getsusa said dismissively, pointing at the girl. "She seems to be—"

"Her name is Rose DeWitt Bukater, she's an aristocrat," Howard interjected, meeting Sen Getsusa's astonished gaze, the little Boy casually tapping his temple.

"I've seen the invitation list for this ship, it's all in my head. Besides, she walks so close to Mr. Karl, everyone knows her name."

Why specifically memorize the staff list?

Howard answered as a matter of course, "Specifically? No need, I remember it with one glance. Do I need to specifically remember so few names?"

Sen Getsusa:...Howard jumped off the chair, quietly threw the lobster shell into the sea, and Sen Getsusa took out a tissue from her satchel to wipe the little Boy's mouth.

Afterward, the brat, having gotten away with it, even critiqued the girl, "You're very skilled at that. My judgment was probably wrong—you must be a nanny?"

Sen Getsusa pinched his cheek hard.

"Not far now."

In the distance, Jack was struggling to pull Miss Rose—Miss Rose—back, and both of them were almost entirely suspended outside the ship.

"I was the oldest orphan in the orphanage; it was my responsibility to take care of my younger siblings. If you say I'm like a nanny, there's no problem with that."

Howard's round face showed a rare hint of embarrassment; he lowered his head and whispered an apology to Sen Getsusa: "Sorry... I didn't know you were—"

The girl smiled and waved her hand, messing up his neat hair.

At the stern, the two were still struggling.

"Aren't we going to save them?"

Howard changed the subject. He saw the two not far away and started to get nervous, tugging on Sen Getsusa's sleeve. "They're going to fall!"

"Shh—someone's coming."

Sen Getsusa pointed to the gangway.

Several crew members on the distant deck heard a cry for help from the stern and quickly ran towards them.

Jack held his breath, gripping Rose's arms tightly, and lifted her onto the ship's deck.

Because both of them pulled too hard and too fiercely, the moment Rose flipped over the iron railing, they fell onto the deck, embracing each other.

Three crew members running over saw this scene... two young people who had survived a disaster hugging each other, surrounded by the quiet, empty deck and the sea.

A scene that sparked the imagination.

Howard boredly began to pick at his hands.

He had finished his lobster, so the Child was bored again.

A safe Jack fell into Sen Getsusa's gaze.

She stood up and pointed to the highest point on the ship.

On the mast.

"Want to go see? Whether looking down or up from there, it's a beautiful view." Sen Getsusa teased Howard, spreading her hands and flapping them like wings.

"Fly me up there? Thank you, Miss Delusional.

I should have given you that lobster earlier; you need food more than I do.

Eat as much as you can while you still can."

Howard mocked Sen Getsusa, but she didn't get angry. Smiling, she reached out and grabbed the back of his collar.

"Is your clothing sturdy?"
