A/C: Just a note, the internal voice in this first section up to the first '*' is all Rameses POV. It switches back to Kai after the '*'. I think it's clear after a while but thought the first couple lines might be confusing.

Rameses was quiet when they finally left the market square, grasping onto Kai's hand and intermittently running his thumb over the red band attached to his wrist.
'Day after tomorrow...he said the day after tomorrow...'
It wasn't the wrong quiet that Kai had seen that morning; instead it was as though he were lost in thought.
He even failed to react to Kai simply walking into the garage extension for the night in full view of his family, no longer keeping up the charade of retiring to his upstairs bedroom, only to sneak down during the night.
His distracted mood shifted however, when Kai asked for his help in unwinding the wrapped shirt around his chest.
