Kai wasn't sure if he had simply stopped hearing any and all background noise around him or if the room really was just that quiet; but he could hear every loud, frantic beat of his heart as he waited for Rameses to give him an answer.
He appeared to have frozen entirely, not moving, breathing or speaking - only staring directly at Kai as though he had turned into a solid block of ice.
"Leaving? What do you mean you're leaving tomorrow? Leaving to go where?" His father's voice cut through the stillness.
Kai barely reacted to the slip he had made.
It was nothing.
He didn't care that they knew now, nothing else mattered.
The only thing that mattered was that Rameses still hadn't answered him.
