Rameses POV
It was on a night like this one when Rameses first heard it.
Kai didn't just talk a lot in his waking life, he also talked in his sleep.
The first night that it happened, he almost thought that Kai must actually be awake, it was so clear and concise.
He had just fallen asleep after the whispered conversation about Rami's family and Kai's mother, his arm still draped over his back, his face still blotchy, and he could still feel the damp patch on his shirt.
Rameses couldn't sleep.
The knowledge that the boy who he thought couldn't possibly understand a single piece of his own past, quietly admitting that they held a connection to the worst moment he could remember, had shaken him in an indecipherable way that he was struggling to process.
And then Kai, his eyes closed and with a light frown between his brows, suddenly called out for his mother.
