Realisation seeped through Kai's veins like a steady, cold poison and every loud and erratic beat of his heart pushed it further and further through his body until he was shivering.
He felt too hot and too cold all at once whilst he stared silently at nothing, a cold sweat breaking out across his palms.
"Kai. Did you hear what I just said?"
He shook his head wildly, "No...no, no, that's - that's not true." He stumbled, his mind just a step behind his body.
The seat beside him sank lower, he hadn't registered that his father had moved but suddenly there were hands on his shoulders, forcing him to turn towards him.
"You told me that Uri cannot lie, and that he can tell if somebody is lying. Your words, Kai. You need to snap out of this. You got it wrong. You were wrong." His words were firm but he placed one hand on the side of his face consolingly, and through the haze, Kai could see pity in his warm, brown eyes.
