Kai woke up alone, in his own bed, lying atop the sheets and staring blankly up at the wooden beams across his ceiling.
Whatever Uri had done, was still coursing through his veins with a pleasant warmth that felt utterly jarring in comparison to the ugly, jagged hole that had been punched through his chest.
He stood up from the bed with careful, hesitant movements as though any sudden action might tear him open.
Someone had tidied up the destruction he had caused inside of his room.
Probably his father. Maybe Uri.
Avoiding his reflection in the mirror, he knelt down on the floor and pulled out the smooth stone of white jade, and slipped it into his back pocket.
Next, he picked up the contact rune and pressed his finger against its surface:
'Kai. Is there a problem? I don't know how much longer I can delay things for you. If you don't come soon then they'll -'
