I looked at Ohm. My chest felt tight. He stood there with his split lip and messy clothes. His shirt was inside out. His hair was wild. He shrugged like my words were nothing.
"Yeah, well you better be joking about being pregnant," he said.
I stared at him. The small laugh I gave earlier died in my throat. This was not how I wanted to tell him. I had planned everything so carefully. I wanted it to be special. A surprise. Now everything was broken.
I took a deep breath. My hands were shaking.
"I'm not joking, Ohm."
He blinked. "What?"
"I'm pregnant. For real. I found out two weeks ago. I wanted to surprise you. I even bought a small shirt for the baby with your favorite football team logo. I kept it in my bag. I thought… I thought when we go to Thailand, I would show you. We could be happy. Just us."
My voice cracked. I hated it. I hated sounding weak in front of him.
