Chapter 101 - Chapter 100 — “Spectators, Challengers, and What Love Actually Looks Like”

Comedy · romance · perspective

---

POV — Guild Hall (Everyone Except Ren)

It started as whispering.

Then muttering.

Then bad decisions.

A group of mid-tier guild mages stood near the job board, staring far too obviously at Ren's usual table — currently occupied by Erza, Mira, and Juvia, all laughing at something Ren had said quietly.

> "I'm just saying," one of them grumbled, "this isn't normal."

"Three S-class women?"

"And he doesn't even brag."

"Suspicious."

Cana didn't even look up from her drink.

> "Ah," she said lazily. "The jealousy phase."

Lucy blinked.

> "Phase?"

> "Comes right before humiliation."

The tallest of the group cracked his knuckles and marched forward.

---

POV — Ren

Ren noticed the shift in the room before anyone spoke.

Footsteps.

Posture change.

Magic rising — not hostile, just… insecure.

The man stopped three steps away.

> "Oi. Ren."

Ren looked up.

> "Yes?"

> "You think you're special or something?"

Silence.

Erza sighed.

Mira tilted her head politely.

Juvia's rain aura flickered.

Ren stood.

> "No."

That… was not the expected answer.

> "Then why do they—"

The man pointed vaguely.

> "—sit with you?"

Ren considered him for a moment.

Then answered honestly.

> "Because I listen."

The challenger flushed red.

> "That's it! Fight me!"

Natsu perked up.

> "OH! A FIGHT!"

Makarov didn't even look over.

> "One hit," he muttered. "Make it quick."

---

POV — Guild Hall (Impact)

The challenger lunged.

Ren stepped forward once.

No spell. No chant.

Just a single, precise palm strike to the chest — reinforced by controlled magic flow.

THUD.

The man folded like a chair and slid across the floor, unconscious.

Silence.

Then—

> "ONE HIT KO!" Natsu yelled.

"Called it," Cana said.

"That was merciful," Gray added.

Ren rubbed his wrist.

> "He telegraphed."

Erza crossed her arms.

> "Clean."

Mira smiled sweetly.

> "You didn't even wrinkle your clothes."

Juvia nodded proudly.

> "Ren-sama is efficient."

The rest of the guild collectively decided to mind their own business.

---

POV — Ren (Later, Outside)

Ren barely had time to step outside before three hands grabbed him.

> "We're going out," Mira said cheerfully.

"That wasn't a request," Erza added.

"Juvia wishes to celebrate Ren-sama's overwhelming victory," Juvia declared.

Ren blinked.

> "I didn't—"

They dragged him anyway.

---

POV — Lucy (Watching)

Lucy stood at the guild doorway, watching them disappear down the street.

No shouting. No dramatic flirting. No claiming.

Just ease.

Cana leaned beside her.

> "You see it now?"

Lucy nodded slowly.

> "They don't compete."

> "Exactly."

Lucy hugged her keys lightly.

> "They… choose."

That realization hit harder than any spell.

---

POV — The 'Date' (Ren)

They ended up by the lake.

Food stalls.

Lanterns.

Quiet laughter.

Mira tried sweets with Ren, feeding him one before he could object.

> "You don't hate sugar," she said knowingly.

Erza insisted on grilled meat.

> "Protein matters."

Juvia bought drinks and handed Ren one like it was sacred.

> "Hydration."

Ren stared at all three.

> "You planned this."

Mira smiled.

> "Of course."

Erza nodded.

> "You forget yourself when you work."

Juvia's voice softened.

> "We will not."

Ren exhaled slowly.

Not trapped.

Not overwhelmed.

Just… held.

---

POV — Lucy (From Afar)

Lucy sat on a bench nearby, pretending to read.

She wasn't fooled.

She watched how Ren leaned slightly toward whoever was speaking.

How Erza relaxed without armor.

How Mira didn't hide her strength behind smiles.

How Juvia shone — not desperate, not lonely.

Lucy swallowed.

> This is what it looks like… when no one is afraid to be left behind.

She smiled to herself.

---

POV — Ending (Ren)

Night settled.

The house lights reflected in the lake as they walked back.

Erza spoke quietly.

> "You don't owe us anything."

Mira nodded.

> "We just want to be here."

Juvia added softly.

> "Together."

Ren stopped.

Turned.

Looked at all three.

> "I know."

And for once—

He let himself be pulled forward instead of standing alone.

---

Closing Line

Back at the guild, Lucy wrote in her journal that night:

> Some bonds don't burn bright.

They don't shout.

They don't prove.

They simply stay.

And watching them—

She finally understood what she was searching for.
