Chapter 9 - chapter 12

Jay wasn't planning to stay long.

"I just came to return this," she said, placing the file on the table.

Ren glanced at it briefly. "You could've texted."

"And let you ignore me?" she shot back, folding her arms.

A small pause.

"I don't ignore you."

There was something in the way he said it—quiet, certain.

Jay looked away first.

Then—

BANG. BANG. BANG.

"REN! OPEN THE DOOR!"

Jay blinked. "…Do you owe someone money?"

Ren frowned. "No."

Another knock.

Louder this time.

He walked to the door and pulled it open—

—and froze.

"Miss me?"

Thyme stood there, smirking like nothing had changed.

Behind him, Kavin lifted a hand lazily, MJ leaned against the wall already scanning everything, and Gorya smiled warmly.

For a second—

Ren just stared.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

Kavin scoffed. "That's how you greet us after we flew all the way from Thailand?"

MJ chuckled. "Ungrateful."

Gorya stepped forward. "We wanted to surprise you."

Ren exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "You guys seriously came all the way here… without telling me?"

Thyme shrugged. "That's the point of a surprise."

Then—

Kavin's gaze shifted past Ren.

"…Oh?"

Everyone followed.

Jay stood there.

Watching.

Quiet—but not unsure.

A slow grin spread across Thyme's face.

"Well… you must be Jayjay."

Jay raised a brow slightly. "And you are?"

Kavin stepped forward, amused.

"We're the important people in his life."

MJ smirked. "And you must be our Ren's fiancée."

A pause.

Jay met his gaze—

then smiled.

"Yeah… and you are?"

Gorya laughed softly. "I'm Gorya."

"Thyme."

"Kavin."

"MJ."

Jay nodded.

"Ren told me a lot about you guys."

Ren muttered, "Not a lot."

Kavin smirked. "Enough."

"Alright," Thyme clapped his hands. "We didn't fly here to stand around."

MJ grinned. "Let's go out."

"Club," Kavin added.

Ren sighed. "You guys just got here—"

"And we're already bored," Thyme cut in.

Ren looked at Jay.

"Come with us?"

For a second—

she thought about saying no.

About going home.

About keeping things simple.

But something in her… didn't want simple tonight.

"…Okay."

✧ The Club ✧

The moment they walked in—

everything changed.

Music pulsed through the air. Lights flickered across faces. The crowd moved like one body.

And attention followed them instantly.

MJ didn't even make it to the table.

Within seconds—

he was surrounded.

Girls laughing, leaning in, trying to get his attention.

"Relax," he laughed, holding his drink, "one at a time."

Kavin wasn't far behind.

"Careful," he told one girl with a teasing smile, "you're staring too much."

She giggled.

Jay watched, slightly amused.

"…They're popular."

Ren sighed. "Unfortunately."

Thyme laughed, pulling Gorya closer. "That's just them."

Gorya rolled her eyes. "Ignore them."

They finally settled at a table.

Drinks arrived.

And so did the chaos.

"Remember that night in Bangkok—"

"Don't start—"

"You literally cried—"

"I did NOT cry—"

Jay laughed.

And it surprised her.

How easy it felt.

How light.

MJ dropped into his seat. "So, Jay… how is it being engaged to this guy?"

Ren groaned. "Why are you like this?"

Jay smirked. "It's fine."

Kavin raised a brow. "Just fine?"

She shrugged. "He's tolerable."

"Wow," Ren deadpanned.

Laughter.

"Jay?"

Gorya gently touched her arm.

"Come with me?"

Jay nodded.

✧ Washroom ✧

The noise faded behind the door.

Jay leaned against the counter, exhaling.

Gorya watched her for a moment.

"You didn't know, did you?"

Jay frowned. "Know what?"

"…About Ren."

Her heart skipped.

"What about him?"

Gorya smiled softly.

"He really likes you."

Jay blinked.

"…We're engaged."

"I know," Gorya said gently. "But I mean… really."

Jay went quiet.

"He talks about you differently," Gorya continued.

"And Ren… he doesn't fake things."

Jay looked down.

"He never said anything."

"He wouldn't," Gorya said softly. "Not if he thinks you're still hurting."

That—

hit.

"I'm not telling you what to do," Gorya added.

"But… don't break his heart."

Jay swallowed.

"And don't be harsh on yourself."

Jay nodded slowly.

Because somehow—

she needed to hear that.

✧ Back to the Table ✧

"Finally," MJ grinned. "Now we can start."

Thyme smirked. "Drinking game."

Ren immediately: "No."

Jay raised a brow. "Why?"

"You'll get drunk."

"And?"

"And I'll have to deal with you."

She leaned slightly closer.

"Maybe I want you to."

"OH—"

"DID YOU HEAR THAT—"

Ren closed his eyes. "I hate all of you."

✧ The Game ✧

Laughter. Teasing. Drinks.

At one point—

MJ smirked. "So, Ren… how's life with your fiancée?"

Ren didn't even think.

"Of course good thanks to my fiancée 😉"

The table exploded.

"BRO—"

"HE SAID IT LIKE THAT—"

"CONFIDENT—"

Jay froze.

Just for a second.

Not because of the words.

But the way he said it.

Like it wasn't a joke.

Something in her chest—

shifted.

Round after round—

she drank more.

Ren noticed.

"That's enough."

"I'm fine."

"Jay—"

"I said I'm fine."

Later—

everything felt lighter.

Blurry.

But him—

he was clear.

Jay turned to him.

And suddenly—

the noise didn't matter.

The people didn't matter.

Nothing did.

"Ren…"

He leaned slightly closer. "Yeah?"

"You're always there."

He stilled.

"You listen… even when I don't make sense."

Her voice softened.

"You stay… even when I push you away."

Her chest tightened.

Because now—

she saw it.

All the things she ignored.

"Why?" she whispered.

Ren swallowed. "Jay…"

But she shook her head.

Because if he spoke—

she might stop.

"And you don't make me feel like I'm too much," she continued softly.

"You don't make me feel hard to love."

Her fingers tightened around his shirt.

"And I've been so busy holding onto someone who never stayed…"

Her voice broke.

"…that I didn't see the one who did."

Silence.

"I think…" she whispered, eyes searching his,

"I'm starting to understand."

Ren didn't move.

Didn't breathe.

She stepped closer.

And kissed him.

For a second—

he froze.

Because this—

this meant everything.

Then—

his hand moved, pulling her closer—

and he kissed her back.

Not hesitant.

Not unsure.

Real.

The group LOST IT.

"FINALLY—"

"ABOUT TIME—"

"I KNEW IT—"

Gorya smiled softly, squeezing Thyme's hand.

And then—

everything stopped.

At the entrance—

Keifer stood there.

His eyes locked on them.

On her.

On the way she wasn't pulling away.

His jaw tightened.

Fists clenched.

Too late.

For the first time—

Keifer was too late.
