Sansa's POV
"With Jason?" I asked, confused, still clinging to the most obvious answer.
Melissa shook her head slowly, her smile faint but certain. "No. By replacing your thoughts of Alex."
The words sat between us, heavier than I wanted them to be. I swallowed, my throat dry again, even though the wine was still on my tongue. "Replace him with what exactly?"
"Not what," she corrected softly. "Who."
Her eyes didn't move away from mine. I felt a strange heat crawl up my neck, and for a second, I forgot how to breathe. The idea sounded ridiculous, impossible even, but the way she said it—with that calm confidence—made me wonder if she was serious.
"You think I can just… swap Alex out like a pair of shoes?" I asked, half scoffing, half desperate for her to tell me she was joking.
