I humped on one foot as I tried to slide my foot into the shoes while rushing to answer the doorbell. After successfully getting it on, I glanced at my watch and I realized it wasn't 12:30 yet. I still had 12 more minutes at my disposal.
I opened the door and came face to face with Jason.
"Are those new clothes?" was the first thing he asked. Not even a compliment to boost what little ego I had left.
"Well, you didn't exactly give me much time to get ready, let alone go shopping," I replied, trying to bite back my sarcasm.
He nodded briefly. "It'll work."
I tried to keep my emotions in check and mirror his indifference as I stepped outside, preparing to lock the door when he stopped me.
With his index finger, he tilted my chin, giving him a clear view of my neck. That's when I remembered the hickey I'd spotted earlier.
I quickly stepped back and shifted my hair forward. "Never mind that."
"If you're busy… I could come back later," he said, but I shook my head.
