I swallowed hard, but before the dry, sarcastic retort could fully leave my mouth, Draven moved. He didn't give me time to dodge, didn't give me a single second to build up another layer of my pathetic verbal defense. It was as if he'd been waiting for exactly this moment, watching for the crack in my armor before striking.
His hand slithered around my waist like a heavy, scorching band of iron, and with one fluid, terrifyingly effortless tug, he pulled me flush against his bare body.
I felt the shock of contact ripple through me, every nerve suddenly awake and screaming. There was no gentleness in the motion, only certainty, as though he'd already decided this outcome long before I'd walked into the room.
My breath caught in my throat. I gasped, my chest heaving straight against his damp, rock-hard pecs, and then his mouth was on mine.
