Hunter unhesitatingly picked up the dozen or so letters and opened them one by one.
Three of them were useless items.
They were letters from the credit card company, as well as the water, electricity, and gas companies, demanding payment.
The remaining few letters were the useful information Charlie and the others had left for Slater.
Hunter opened them in sequence and quickly learned what had happened after he left that night.
Several of the letters were written because they couldn't get in touch with Slater.
So Charlie and the others had prepared these letters, hoping that when Slater returned home, she would see them and proactively contact them.
Clearly, Charlie and the others already knew Slater had been rescued.
Although the information in the letters wasn't very detailed,
Hunter relied on the information revealed between the lines of the letters.
He still managed to roughly piece together what had happened that night.
Because of Hunter's intervention, Charlie—who had originally wanted to temporarily fool Steve with Fake Gold Bars and then use the bomb strapped to his body to force Steve to release the kidnapped Slater—suffered a great calamity.
When the Crossbow Bolt Hunter fired destroyed the Power Box of Steve's villa,
Steve and his men started firing in the chaos, and someone's bullet hit Charlie.
However, even with a gunshot wound, he didn't forget his goal and tried to sneak into Steve's villa in the dark to rescue Slater.
As a result, Charlie was screwed over by Hunter again.
Hunter had killed two of Steve's men in the dark and rescued Slater.
Meanwhile, Steve and his men, who returned in time,
Trapped Charlie at the villa and ultimately captured him alive.
Rob tried to rescue Charlie, but he ended up wounded and was nearly caught by Steve as well.
At the most critical moment, it was Left Ear from Charlie's team who, seeing things going south, quickly drove his car and forced his way into the villa, rescuing Rob and Charlie.
However, when the three of them escaped, each had sustained significant injuries.
The most serious was undoubtedly Charlie, who had been shot eight times and had only briefly regained consciousness once.
He seemed to currently be undergoing emergency treatment in some hospital, but before he fell into a coma,
Because he was too worried about Slater, Charlie had his companions come to help him confirm if Slater was safe.
That was why Hunter saw so many letters here at Slater's residence.
As for Steve's situation, the letters did not explain it in detail.
But because Hunter had used a grenade that night,
And Rob had also detonated a bomb to save Charlie,
Two consecutive explosions, especially in a villa area full of wealthy people,
Even if the Los Angeles Police Department were blind and deaf, the complaints from the wealthy and powerful would force them to be sharp-eyed and clear-eared.
Consequently, before most of Steve's men had time to escape,
They were arrested by the Los Angeles police and locked up.
As for Steve, he had managed to escape in the chaos, driving the car filled with Fake Gold Bars.
Because of this, Charlie and the others didn't know where Steve was now.
The only thing they could be sure of was that Steve wouldn't give up so easily.
He would likely soon discover that the batch of gold bars Charlie had prepared that day were all fakes.
Charlie and the others could hide for now,
But Slater had no way to hide!
After all, she had opened a Locksmith Company in Los Angeles; she was far too conspicuous.
Therefore, Charlie and the others were worried that Steve would target Slater again.
So almost every day, someone would deliver a letter to Slater's apartment, warning her—who knew when she might return—to be careful not to get caught by Steve again.
So that's how it is!
It didn't take Hunter long to read through all the letters at Slater's place.
After finishing, he packed every letter up, planning to take them with him later and hand them over to Slater at the farm.
Hunter hadn't expected that, on that chaotic night, Steve would still manage to slip away in the confusion—and that Charlie and the others still hadn't found him.
He didn't care whether Charlie and company lived or died.
But Slater was, after all, half his teacher; as long as it was within his power, Hunter intended to solve her problem for her first.
So, where should I look for Steve?
With that worry in mind, Hunter walked out of Slater's apartment.
He had barely stepped outside when he suddenly felt a gaze land on him.
Hunter's five senses were razor-sharp.
The instant he sensed the stare, he instinctively looked up to find its source.
A moment later, his expression froze slightly.
A faint smile quickly appeared on his face.
Across the street from Slater's apartment, beneath a big tree, a man wearing sunglasses and a hat—only the lower half of his face and a pair of bushy mustache visible—was staring at the building.
Though the man was heavily disguised, and anyone unfamiliar with him would probably fail to recognize him,
unfortunately, Hunter knew him all too well—so well that a single glance was enough to confirm his identity.
Steve?!
Truly, you can wear out iron shoes in fruitless searching, then find the answer without any effort at all.
I was just wondering where to look for you, and here you pop up on your own.
He quickly averted his gaze so Steve wouldn't notice anything off.
Hunter continued walking at an unhurried pace until he'd put some distance behind him.
Then he glanced around and soon picked out another apartment building.
Finding an unobserved corner, he swiftly changed his appearance.
First, he donned a wig and clamped a baseball cap over it.
Next, he slipped on a large pair of bug-eye sunglasses that covered half his face.
He also pulled out a fake mustache and stuck it above and below his mouth.
Ever since awakening his disguise skill, Hunter had bought himself some makeup tools and gear for quick disguises.
Every time he moved these days, he used them.
Thanks to these precautions, his real identity had never been exposed.
With his disguise complete, he entered the apartment building.
He climbed the stairs all the way to the top floor.
From there, he started scanning downward, looking for Steve's position while searching for a suitable spot.
After a short search, he found the perfect place.
Glancing around, he noticed a surveillance camera not far away.
Hunter tugged his cap lower and strolled unhurriedly toward the device.
The instant he was beneath it, he pulled a baseball bat from his private space and nudged the camera so it pointed into a dead corner.
With that done, he returned to his previous position.
He knew that if a camera was installed here, security would soon notice the problem and come to check.
His window of opportunity was closing.
He locked his gaze on Steve again, confirming the man was still in the same spot, eyes fixed on Slater's apartment.
Immediately, Hunter drew the sniper laika crossbow from his private space.
He loaded a bolt onto the rail.
After silently calculating wind speed and distance, he squeezed the trigger.
Whoosh!
With the hiss of something slicing through the air, he watched the distant figure crumple.
Hunter quickly stowed the crossbow, grinned in satisfaction for a moment, then turned and vanished into the stairwell.
