I watched Freda sleep in my arms as the night slowly turned to dawn. Her face was peaceful and beautiful in the fading moonlight. Her breathing was soft and even. She looked so content lying there on the moss with flowers still woven through her hair.
I did not want to wake her but we could not stay in the forest forever. The pack would wonder where we were. And I wanted to get her back to a proper bed where she could rest comfortably.
"Freda," I said softly. I brushed a strand of hair away from her face. "We should head back. The sun is coming up."
"Five more minutes," Freda mumbled without opening her eyes. She burrowed deeper into my arms. "I am so comfortable."
"We have been here for hours," I said with a laugh. "We need to get back before the whole pack comes looking for us."
"Let them look," Freda said. "I do not want to move."
