Urdon Pov
I was halfway through morning patrol when I smelled it. Freda's heat scent was thick and heavy in the air. It hit me like a wall, and my wolf immediately growled low in my chest.
"She is in heat," my wolf said. "Our mate needs us. We must go to her now."
I tried to focus on the patrol. Tried to finish checking the borders like I was supposed to. But the scent was driving me crazy. It was stronger than her normal heat scent. More intense. More demanding.
"Alpha, are you okay?" Marcus asked. He was walking beside me when he noticed I had stopped moving.
"I need to get back to the pack house," I said. My voice came out rough. "Now. Right now."
"Is something wrong?" Marcus asked. He looked concerned and confused.
"Freda," I said. "She needs me. Her scent. Can you not smell it?"
"I smell it," Marcus said. He looked uncomfortable. "But Alpha, we are only halfway done with patrol. We still need to check the eastern border and the creek bed."
