Viktor was still standing there with that ugly smile on his face, and Silas was looking at the dirt like it was the most interesting thing in the world.

 

I looked at our wolves. They were frozen. Nobody knew what to say because the betrayal was sitting right in front of us.

 

 

"Urdon is the reason the pups died," Hagar said. He pointed a finger at Urdon, and his hand didn't shake at all.

 

"He brought that curse. He brought the amnesia and the bad luck. The spirits are angry with him. Why should we starve just because he's a marked man?"

 

"That's a lie," I said. My voice was loud, and I didn't care if Viktor smelled the fear on me anymore. "The famine hit everyone. The curse didn't dry up the rain."

 

"It didn't help," a female voice shouted from the back of our group.
