Selene's POV
I paced Damon's office like a caged animal.
The room was large and built for authority.
Dark wood shelves climbed the walls, heavy with old records, scrolls, and maps that marked the borders of Nightshade territory.
A massive desk sat near the center, polished to a mirror shine. The scent of leather, ink, and Damon lingered in the air.
Normally it would have calmed me.
Tonight it only made the waiting worse.
He'd been gone for twenty minutes.
Twenty minutes that stretched into something unbearable.
My boots thudded softly against the floor as I walked from one end of the room to the other.
Turn. Walk back. Turn again.
Each step scraped against my nerves.
What if Ronan attacked him?
What if I had been wrong?
What if Ronan really had betrayed Damon and was waiting for the chance to strike?
My wolf stirred beneath my skin, restless and agitated.
Damon was strong. The strongest wolf I knew.
But betrayal changed things.
