AFTERMATH AND ACCIDENTS
Selene's POV
Dawn broke over Nightshade territory with the kind of cruel beauty that made everything from the night before feel like a fever dream.
Except for the bodies.
And the blood.
And the fact that I'd apparently used some kind of ancient goddess power to force an elder to his knees.
"Drink this."
I looked up to find a young woman holding out a steaming mug. She had kind eyes and flour dusting her apron.
"It's just tea,"
she said quickly, probably reading the suspicion on my face.
"Chamomile and honey. Nothing fancy. You look like you need it."
I accepted the mug, wrapping my hands around its warmth.
"Thank you. I'm sorry, I don't know your name."
"Vera. I work in the kitchens."
She hesitated.
"I was friends with Aria."
My chest tightened.
"I'm so sorry about what happened to her."
"It wasn't your fault."
Vera sat down beside me on the steps of the medical wing.
