Chapter 88 - 4 DAYS (6)- CATCHING LIGHTNING

AKAME ASSASINATION (23)

The black substance leaked from the creatures skin as small amounts of an electric current passed through it. These layers seemed to get darker and thicker the more the current passed through the creature. It would seem as though Gil had found the trick but it didn't last long as Gil's palms would soon come into contact with the substance which wasn't ideal.

He quickly jolted back leaving the creature to regenerate its lost metallic cover. There were no words to describe the sensation that each of the 3 of them felt at that moment. Perhaps it was aside effect of the storm brewing right above them.

The creature aggressively turned and was going to take off Gil's head, but his defenses wouldn't allow that. With his right hand he blocked the creatures attack which must've caught it off guard, this gave Donovan the opportunity to catch it from behind with his one good fist.

BAM!

He was able to land one on the creature's back making it move forward a bit, but it then turned switching from Gil to Donovan.

"Don't let up, keep punching it!" He shouted.

And the two of them were able to do just that, as it turned to attack Donovan, Gil attacked it from the back which caused it to look back at him which then gave Donovan room to attack also. As such the two were able to choreographer their attacks in such a way that made the creature acquire the most damage in a short amount of time.

PUNCH!

 One on the creatures face.

KICK!

 Another to its stomach.

PUNCH!

 On to its chest.

PZZZ!

Gil could feel an increase in the ionization of molecules, there was a sound produced that irritated the ear. Yes indeed lightning was about to strike, but the question is, would he be able to redirect it?

Suddenly the creature's skin began showing small bumps indicating there was something underneath. The both of them got a sudden realization of what it was

 "Move!"

 SLICE!

Multiple thorn like structures erupted from the creatures back, but the two of them were out of its range by the time they had lengthened.

PZZZ!

The irritation on their ears was becoming greater than before.

"We've got to pin him down!" Donovan shouted.

"What, I can't hear you." Gil shouted back.

"I said we should pin him down!"

"I think we should pin him down." Gil suggested.

Donovan nodded reluctantly even though the idea was his. The creature turned once more and was about to go on the offensive, but this time the thorns didn't retract back into its skin like it normally did.

"Don't get impaled!" Donovan warned but it wasn't as though Gil was listening to him anyway, his ears were to focused on the sound.

'I think I know where its going to strike.' Gil made a run for it across the planes, he had an itch he needed to scratch. Leaving Donovan to fend for himself, which he should've been able to do anyway since he was a grown man.

 "Darkness…"

"Must eat?" Donovan finished the creatures sentence, "Sure I've heard that line way too many times today."

By circulating F.E around his body he was able to harden or enhance his physical capabilities protecting himself from getting pierced by the thorns… is what he thought, but it would appear he miss calculated since the thorns began borrowing their way into his skin.

"Shit!" He gritted his teeth as they sunk even deeper into Donovan's flesh tearing his clothes and making him bleed continuously.

'What are these things even made out of?' He wondered, 'Could it perhaps be magic rather than sorcery? Probably, this is gonna hurt tomorrow.'

"But since you're here anyway." Donovan gripped onto the creatures spikes, "Why don't you stay a bit longer."

 PZZZ!

"Right here." Gil stood about 500 meters away from Donovan and the creature, his senses all screamed at him that this was the place that lightning was going to strike.

He clasped his hands together and awaited what would come next. 'I'll catch it then redirect it… although will it kill me though?' He wondered, but the thought didn't really scare him, rather it was just mere curiosity.

"Guess we'll find out today." He hyped himself up for what was about to unfold.

Meanwhile Donovan began to feel a sharp pain coming from the wounds inflicted using the thorns, it was as though his body was being exposed to fire which in it of itself wasn't a bad thing since his body was used to fire.

"Huh?" The creature looked back, it could feel energy gathering around Gil and even in its current state of mind it could tell that getting hit by that thing would be an issue.

SHING!

It retracted all of its thorns and pushed Donovan aside ready to make a move away from its current position. Take in mind dear reader all the events following this took place in less than a second. As the clouds rolled through the sky that had been blackened by their presence a powerful bolt of lightning made its way towards the ground sensing a place of low electron concentration right below it.

Thanks to the ionizing of molecules.

The bolt struck Gil and suddenly all of his senses felt extremely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of electricity that passed through his body. Normally getting struck by this much lightning would kill a regular person or even sorcerer.

However, thanks to Gil's affinity with lightning and electricity in general his body has developed a tolerance for electricity and lightning, making him the perfect conductor. Redirecting all that energy without letting the lightning get earthed was another issue in it of itself. But Gil actually had something up his sleeve.

Transmutation is just giving your F.E the properties of a certain substance, however sometimes people choose not to do this. By surrounding your body in F.E without an affinity it automatically enhances your physical capabilities. Now, a question Gil has been wondering all this time, could you conjure lightning then cover yourself in that lightning?

He already knew the answer because he had done it prior when using purple lightning. But he wasn't at the level of conjuration yet, so how would he obtain real lightning? By standing out in a storm and attracting a real thunder bolt. This technically wouldn't be transmutation but the laws of transmutation still applied even for conjured elements.

But this was his first experience with real lightning so perhaps that wasn't the way to go. Instead he would simply convert all that energy that he would receive into chemical energy then back into F.E then just transmute it into lightning. Of course some energy would be lost to heat or sound or even to his cells. But it would still punch like actual lightning… is what he thought anyway.

In short Gil became a reverse battery.

BLUE ELECTRIC DISCHARGE, THUNDER BOLT!

Even though the creature thought it could dodge it, it simple wasn't able to due to the sheer power and magnitude of the strike. And in an instant the creature was completely vaporized with only its upper half remaining.

"Seriously?" Donovan had been caught up in the initial blast but he had a resistance to electricity so it would be fine. "This things not dead."

"Is there that much of a difference between conjured lightning, real lightning and transmuted lightning?" Gil wondered out loud. "I'll just have to do it again."

He brought his hands together trying to get a spark, but all he got was trembling hands, blurry vision and a nosebleed.

His technique had burned out. Leaving him with nothing else to do but fall onto his face.

'NO! NO! Get back up!' He screamed at himself, 'Get back up damn it! You're way stronger than back then, get back up! Akame wouldn't be like this, he'd finish the job! How… how can I hope to stand as an equal if I can't finish the job!'

A stream of tears began pouring out of his eyes as he laid there defenseless.

The creature on the other hand seemed to be doing just fine.

"Its lower half began to regenerate." Donovan exclaimed but was unable to do anything, the effect of the lightning on his nervous system was much more prolonged than he thought it would be. He was paralyzed.

'Is this actually the end?' Gil gritted his teeth, "No! Get up damn it!"

TAWE: SHINING SPEAR OF LIFE!

Right through the creatures chest a spear emerged. It glew like the sun and illuminated all around it.

 "What?"

The girl who had been quiet all along regained her strength as the boys fought the creature, finally finding enough of it to summon her spear and finish the job. She had gotten up and leaned against a tree panting as though she had run a marathon.

The creature's lower body stopped regenerating and it stopped moving. Small fragments of a light blue and green began detaching from it and floating upwards.

"Darkness… darkness will come… com.." With that its outer shell turned into fragments rejoining the cycle, leaving the human skull and black substance.

Gil found enough strength to look up, to his surprise he found her smiling.

NOW THEY WERE BOTH EVEN!
