Chapter 51 - Ashes of the Canyon

Silence.

Where the canyon once stood, there was now only a massive crater stretching across the desert.

The sand had melted into black glass.

Smoke rose slowly into the morning sky.

The satellite strike had erased everything.

Or so the world believed.

Juvy crawled out from under the shattered crystal shield she had created at the last second.

Her head spun.

Her ears rang.

Everything hurt.

She looked around.

The Resistance camp was gone.

Tents.

Weapons.

Tracks in the sand.

All erased.

"…Eli?" she whispered.

Her voice cracked.

She stumbled forward across the glassy sand.

"Mara? Anyone?!"

No answer.

Only the wind.

Her chest tightened with panic.

"No… no… no…"

Then she heard a cough.

Behind a broken crystal slab.

Juvy rushed over.

Eli lay there, covered in dust but alive.

"Juvy…"

Relief hit her like a wave.

She dropped to her knees and hugged him tightly.

"You idiot… I told you to run."

He laughed weakly.

"I tried."

A few other survivors slowly emerged from the wreckage.

Mara.

Three Resistance fighters.

Two freed prisoners.

That was all.

Out of dozens.

Juvy stared at the empty desert.

Her hands trembled.

"This is my fault."

Mara shook her head.

"No. This is Cain's fault."

Juvy clenched her fists.

The prophecy echoed in her mind again.

One Significant must remain.

Her voice dropped.

"I'm not losing anyone else."

Far across the desert…

Maxruell stood alone on a rocky ridge.

The explosion had thrown him miles away.

Dust still covered his coat.

The red stone in his chest pulsed slowly.

The battle was over.

But something felt wrong.

He looked back toward the distant crater.

"…She survived."

He could feel it.

Their powers were still connected somehow.

Part of the prophecy.

Maxruell exhaled slowly.

"Good."

Then his expression hardened.

"Because next time…"

His shadows stretched across the ground.

"I won't hesitate."

Meanwhile, across the world…

The footage of the canyon battle spread rapidly.

Cities watched the broadcast in shock.

Two figures destroying an entire battlefield.

Light and darkness tearing armies apart.

News networks ran the same headline everywhere:

GLOBAL ALERT — TWO SIGNIFICANTS CONFIRMED

Governments panicked.

Armies mobilized.

Hunters prepared.

The world had just realized something terrifying.

There weren't just rumors anymore.

The Significants were real.

High above it all…

Mother Cain watched the reactions pour in.

Serah scrolled through the reports.

"Every government is preparing anti-Significant units."

Cain smiled faintly.

"Exactly as planned."

Serah tilted her head.

"You're turning the entire world against them."

Cain nodded.

"Fear creates control."

She tapped the screen showing the twins' last known locations.

"Soon they'll have nowhere left to hide."

Back in the desert…

Juvy stood on the edge of the crater.

The sun rose slowly behind her.

Golden light spreading across the destroyed canyon.

Eli stood beside her.

"What do we do now?"

Juvy looked toward the horizon.

Toward the world that now hunted them.

Her voice was calm.

But determined.

"We rebuild."

She turned toward the surviving fighters.

"The Resistance isn't finished."

Mara smirked slightly.

"Damn right it isn't."

Juvy raised her glowing hand.

Light flickered around her fingers again.

"But next time…"

Her eyes hardened.

"…we hit them harder."

Miles away…

Maxruell walked into a ruined highway town.

The survivors inside froze when they saw him.

Some whispered.

Others backed away in fear.

"Red King…"

Maxruell ignored them.

He stepped into the center of the street.

Darkness gathered around him again.

The world wanted a monster.

Fine.

He'd give them one.

The prophecy had begun moving faster.

Two Significants.

Two paths.

And a world preparing for war.
