Chapter 127 - Echoes of Fear

Rain fell over Ground Zero that night.

Soft.

Cold.

Quiet.

Aren remained sitting at the rooftop edge.

Watching distant city lights blur beneath the rain.

Juvy stayed nearby silently.

Not forcing conversation.

Just present.

For a while—

Only the sound of rain existed between them.

Then Aren finally spoke.

"…Why are humans afraid of things they don't understand?"

Juvy answered honestly.

"…Because sometimes fear keeps people alive."

Aren lowered their eyes.

"…Even if it hurts others?"

Silence lingered briefly.

"…Yeah."

Aren clenched their hands slightly.

"…I didn't choose to exist."

That sentence hit harder than expected.

Juvy's expression softened immediately.

"…None of us really do."

Aren looked toward her slowly.

"…Then why keep living if pain always follows?"

Rain slid down the rooftop quietly.

Juvy thought for a moment before answering.

"…Because pain isn't the only thing that follows."

She pointed toward the streets below.

Even in the rain—

People still moved through the recovering city.

Workers sharing umbrellas.

Someone helping an exhausted stranger carry supplies.

Two kids laughing while splashing through puddles.

Messy.

Imperfect.

Human.

"…That's why," Juvy said softly.

— Meanwhile: Fear Spreads —

Elsewhere in the city—

A meeting was taking place in secret.

A small anti-resonance organization gathered inside an abandoned lower district facility.

Screens displayed footage from Ground Zero.

Fragment awakenings.

Resonance children.

Aren.

The people inside watched nervously.

"…The collapse nearly destroyed the world."

"…And now they expect us to trust these things?"

Fear filled the room.

But fear easily became anger.

One man stepped forward.

"…If resonance evolution continues…"

"…humanity may eventually disappear entirely."

Silence followed.

Because deep down—

Part of them believed it.

The next morning—

Kael reviewed global reports with visible frustration.

"…Anti-resonance movements are growing faster than expected."

Maxruell leaned back lazily nearby.

"…Of course they are."

"…Humans love making new enemies."

Lina frowned slightly.

"…Don't say it like it's hopeless."

Maxruell shrugged.

"…Didn't say hopeless."

"…Just predictable."

Aren stood quietly near the doorway listening.

Every word deepened the uncertainty inside them.

Were they truly part of this world?

Or just a threat waiting to happen?

Juvy approached Aren afterward.

"…You're overthinking again."

Aren looked away slightly.

"…What if they're right?"

"…What if beings like me eventually replace humans?"

Juvy answered immediately.

"…You're asking the wrong question."

Aren blinked.

"…Then what should I ask?"

Juvy smiled faintly.

"…Why does existing have to mean replacing someone else?"

Silence followed.

Because Aren had never thought about coexistence that way before.

Suddenly—

Alarms activated throughout the command center.

Kael turned instantly toward the monitors.

"…What now?"

A massive resonance fluctuation had appeared near one of the outer recovery zones.

Not destructive.

But unstable.

And strangely—

It carried emotional patterns identical to Aren's early resonance signature.

Everyone froze.

Kael looked toward Aren slowly.

"…Another one."

Aren stared at the monitor silently.

Somewhere out there—

Another resonance-born existence had awakened.

Confused.

Alone.

Afraid.

And this time—

The world might not welcome them gently.
