After lunch, they took a short break. Simon arrived early in the afternoon. He kept apologizing to Ewan for saying he would come help but only showing up now.
"It is fine, you had things to do at home. I can just chip away at the work here. Are you done on your end? If not, you do not have to come help me."
"All done, all done. I just had to double-check the bean rows. The sooner it is done, the better."
Simon grinned sheepishly, but his eyes widened when he saw the jars Ewan was using to ferment syrup: "Are you making all of this into syrup?"
The amount of berries Ewan had picked was not exactly a mountain, but it was not a small amount either. If he turned it all into syrup, the yield would be quite large. Besides, syrup could not be kept for too long. If it was closer to winter when the temperature dropped or snowed, it would be fine, but in this season, it easily went sour, fermenting into alcohol or vinegar.
