"What?"
Francis froze completely, terror crashing through him as his Alpha instincts erupted without restraint. I felt his aura spike, sharp and suffocating, as he turned his head and scanned the area like a wounded beast searching for its cub. Wolves and humans moved past us in endless streams, scents overlapping, energy chaotic and loud but Jared's presence was nowhere to be found. Not a trace of his small, familiar wolf-scent remained.
"Jared!" Francis roared, his voice heavy with dominance and fear. "Where did you lose Jared?"
The force of his anger slammed into me. In just a few minutes, I had "lost" his grandson. A three-year-old pup. A child carrying the pack's bloodline and future.
"I I'm sorry, Dad!" I cried immediately, my knees going weak as tears spilled freely. "He was too naughty. He suddenly ran off to play, and I couldn't keep an eye on him…"
