Jared went quiet for a moment before answering, his voice calm as always. "You've probably been pushing yourself too hard these past two months. I'll prepare some medicine for you. Just make sure you take it and rest properly."
I let out a soft hum in response, then dropped my head onto the table, completely drained. "If I knew it would feel like this," I muttered, "I wouldn't have chosen this path at all."
He chuckled lightly on the other end. "What are you saying? Don't talk like that. I'll be joining you on the business trip in a few days. I can keep an eye on you."
I blinked, surprised, my voice softening without meaning to. "You're coming… for me?"
There was a short pause before he replied, "No. I have my own matters to handle as well."
"Oh," I said, then quickly added, "Alright. I'll contact you when the time comes."
Even so, a small sense of relief settled in me. Jared had always been reliable, steady in a way that didn't make demands. It made things easier.
