I nodded, turning a few things over in my mind. John had been brought back to K City by the Stovalls a few years ago, and I had never pressed him for the details. We were just children when he first arrived in R Province, and Grandma never breathed a word about the investor who had taken his own life. For so many years, I had never thought to ask John about his past either.
After an entire night of socializing and playing the part, I sank back into my seat, heavy and hollow. In my drowsy state, I barely noticed when the car finally turned into the residential area.
