The office fell quiet after Marcus left.
For a while, Kade remained seated behind his desk, staring out at the city beyond the glass. Nightshade City stretched endlessly beneath him—busy, alive, unaware—while his thoughts were nowhere near the city at all.
Without realizing it, his hand drifted toward his phone. The device unlocked instantly, and a few taps later he found himself opening the gallery. The corner of his mouth softened.
