Richard studied her for a moment before offering a reassuring smile. His hand moved slowly across her shoulder in an attempt to ease the tension that had settled there.
"You're overthinking," he said quietly. "Maya only left yesterday. You're probably worried about her."
His voice softened even further.
"She's intelligent, capable, and stronger than most people realize. Besides, she's with Nightshade now. If anyone can ensure her safety, it's the Ashbourne Alpha."
Luna wanted to believe him. She truly did. Yet no matter how many times she tried to convince herself, the strange heaviness pressing against her heart refused to disappear.
"I know..." she murmured, turning her head toward the digital clock resting on the bedside table.
